What our customers say about their holidays

    • Verity - Verified booking

Oak Lodge is a lovely place to stay: secluded and peaceful but still close to some wonderful beaches (Maenporth is a MUST).

The accommodation was clean and tidy, happily fit our family of six. Beds were made and nicely presented with throws and cushions. Bedrooms are big enough for both younger children and teenagers. Outside the decking is a good size still leaving enough space for the kids to play on the lawn. The hot tub is a great feature: we all made use of it. Easy to use function buttons and temperature gauge. There is plenty of banister space around the decking to hang wetsuits/towels/costumes, there is a clothes horse in the lodge as well if needed. I would highly recommend Oak Lodge for a fab holiday. Anne was lovely and texted a couple of times to check everything was ok. She is very helpful and has great local knowledge. She also left a scrumptious cream tea for us on arrival! Such a nice surprise. There was also a tea/coffee/biscuit selection and some milk in the fridge. It is obvious that the accommodation (and guests) are well looked after. This was our second year here and we plan to return in a couple of years. Handy hint: supermarkets will deliver so save yourself the trouble and lounge in the hot tub till your shopping arrives!! The only other things that would be helpful are a lamp in the lounge for some subtle lighting and a couple of sun Loungers on the grass.

    • The J Family. - Verified booking

Our family of three stayed at Poppyfields in August 2024 for a short mid-week break during the school holiday's. Our stay there was perfect for a busy working family. The property it's self is lovely, (very clean, fresh and modern) and is on a quiet site just next door to a campsite. It's a short drive away from the beautiful beach and cafe at Praa Sands and the pubs and restaurants in Porthleven so was a perfect base to explore the local area. We managed to visit Newquay zoo on the way down and see the dolphins at Lands End before coming home. As with lots of other parents we still had to do some work whiles we were there, the Wi-Fi was good enough to host zoom calls and to stream tv ect which was super handy. All in all, it was a perfect place for a beautiful break.

Overall, it was a lovely experience.

A perfect peaceful place to kick your feet up and relax. The location is excellent; 5 minutes away from a Tesco. Only 20 minutes from a beach. There were a few minor issues as soon as we arrived. The chopping board was missing, the lighter to light the wood had no gas in, the cooker wasn't staying lit but all these issues were sorted out promptly. We have never dealt with an eco hot tub before and probably won't again. The water was not the most clean. Bits of residue from previous people floating around in the water which put me off the idea. It is a dog friendly place but beware of the restaurant that is onsite. They do not serve food outside and it is not dog friendly inside so we were refused. Lovely, friendly staff which gave us a warm welcoming.

We have had numerous experiences staying in lodges around the UK, but to tell you the truth in reality Poppyfields Lodge, which was one of six lodges at this location was a world away from the previous experiences. The high spec of the fittings and furnishings was apparent throughout, the outside with the decking and corner bifold doors giving the inside outside feel was so nice on a beautiful sunny evening. For a quiet, relaxing stay in a spot close to some idyllic areas of Cornwall, this is definitely worth considering. In the South West we often think of a holiday lodge as purely summer vacations, I suggest you take advantage of the low season rates, step into this centrally heated cosy lodge, run yourself a bath, open with wine, relax and enjoy.

      There's only to negatives.

The hot tub developed a fault so it kept tripping the fuse, the owner did their best to fix it. Unfortunately these things can happen at any time and we accept that. The lodge we stayed in has another lodge very close by, the positioning means the other occupants have to drive past whilst we were in the hot tub. Also from the occupants from the other lodge could see us in our hot tub. The criticism is, this was not made clear in Sykes advertisement . In fact it is portrayed as a lodge on its own, not on a plot with another lodge close by. If we knew thus we would have stayed in the other lodge is that one is far more private. On the whole we had a great time and would use Sykes again, just being more careful in the booking process
