What our customers say about their holidays

    • Maressa - Verified booking

The lodge is in an amazing peaceful location, the views are to die for and has lots of different wonderful locations near by to keep you entertained.

The lodge on arrival was clean but could do with a freshen up, some of the drawer doors fall off when you go to open them, the hand towel and toilet roll holder were wobbly, and the beds are the noisiest uncomfortable beds I’ve ever had the displeasure to sleep on we almost went home a night early (we only booked for 4 nights!) because we just didn’t want another horrendous nights sleep which is a shame because it really pulls the place down, everything creaked from the floorboards to the bed frames! There is a welcome pack on arrival which gives you all the instructions and it comes with pamphlets, take away menus and a book on what’s around in the area which was nice. The hot tub was cold on arrival which following the instructions left, it still wouldn’t get warm, because we’d not seen any members of staff checking in we were only given a telephone number to ring if any problems not wanting to call someone we’d not met, we ended up Googling how to get it to warm up to find out it was in rest mode! The hot tub had a floating chemical distributer in it however the lid wouldn’t screw on properly so kept falling off so all the tablets were getting exposed to the water. In the advert it says that there is a good connection but can be intermittent at times however it was the connection that was intermittent. It would be handy to have a mop to be able to clean up foot prints from the shower to the hot tub and vice versa. It would be nice to have facilities included such as a hair dryer given the nature of the lodge and complementary tea, coffee sachets so that if travelling from a long distance you can have a nice warm drink before getting any shopping/it being delivered. More toilet roll would have been nice as we had to go out and get more as we were only left what was on the holder and an extra roll which for four nights wasn’t enough. Luckily we booked this as a last minute deal so was on for cheaper than what it should have been, I wouldn’t pay full price to go back and unless the beds were changed we wouldn’t.

We were looking forward to having a break away from it all in complete privacy having seen the photographs and checking on the fencing situation as we have a dog who is over- friendly.

When we arrived Keith asked a lady by the farm type buildings and machinery where we might find Poppy. She did not engage in any welcoming conversation just told us it was the second one along. The huts are attractive but the view from the back window was awful and a tractor with some sort of scraper was going backwards and forwards scraping rainwater from the ground for quite some time. The photographs are also very misleading, we realised they must have been taken with a fish-eye lense as the hut and the garden area were very much smaller and the other huts much closer than we thought. There was a ‘Guests information’ booklet but this did not give any information about how to use the shower, the heating, the hob or the tv. A Guest book was provided for guests to write their feedback but I found it a little suspicious, considering the above that it was a loose leaf book, with only glowing reviews. Although it was thoughtful to provide a small bottle of milk and coffee, tea and sugar, it would be a good idea to provide condiments and cooking/olive oil too. We enjoyed our break due to the places we visited and the views of the hills and sheep but the experience could have been so much better with some friendliness and thoughtfulness from the hosts.

      The accommodation was truly outstanding.

The extra packages available were a lovely touch, and easy to order more during the stay. All information that we needed was clear and easy accessible. For during and after our stay, with flyers of local sights and activities including numbers for taxi firm, dentist and doctors. The guestbook was great to have around with previous holiday makers and their recommendations on things to do and places to eat. Very easy to find. Views were spectacular, hot tub was amazing (especially under the starry sky). Everything was spotless and had good basic amenities available. Only thing I'd love to have seen is some more comfortable outdoor seating to relax in. Bench had seen better days and firepit was a bit unsteady but still usable. Other than that I really couldn't fault our stay here, and I have no doubt in my mind that we will be back as soon as we can!

We felt welcomed at Lapwing Lodge before we'd even left for the trip! The owners ensured we had every available information before we arrived and whilst there also. When we met, we had a lovely, friendly exchange, with help over facilities and even telling us of the local area. The Lodge itself is immaculate, beautiful, fun, relaxing and with everything you could possibly need. It's just magical! We used every area, including the hot tub, games room and fire-pit. All... so enjoyable and so 'extra' compared to other places. Can't fault the place or people at all. If you're thinking of going you won't be disappointed!! It was honestly, the best time we've had. We're already looking at when we can return and our friends, family and colleagues have asked for the details too!
