Rhayader is a quaint Welsh market town filled with cafes, pubs, restaurants, services, and specialty shops selling everything from local antiques to handmade jewellery. A huge swimming pool and weekly cattle market at a recreation centre are nice extras. Outside of town, the Red Kite Feeding Station, is a fantastic attraction. Rhayader is the starting point of the Wye River and features the beautiful Elan and Claerwen Valley Reservoirs and Dams. Aside from its many hiking and biking paths (for which you can rent bikes in nearby Rhayader), the Elan Valley also features a visitor centre with a café and a playground for kids. Due to the incredible range of accessible nature reserves, this region is often referred to as "the Wildlife Centre of Wales." Pony rides can also be arranged in the region.
