What our customers say about their holidays

    • Robert - Verified booking

Welcoming, spacious, in a beautiful county A wonderfully, relaxing week at Brambleside - and in the unlikely month of November.

The lodge is really spacious and comfortable, the interior stylish with co-ordinated colours in the main living area, plus a luxurious wet room. The fridge contained scones, clotted cream, jam, Cornish shortbread biscuits and delicious bottles of low alcohol fruit drinks; all of them part of the welcome from our hosts. And it was a genuine welcome from the owners, who respected our privacy while also being anxious to help us in any way that would make our stay more comfortable. It’s the difference between just renting out a property and their approach, which was to enjoy the fact that they are part of the hospitality business. It was a home from home. Outside was a terrace with easy chairs, a small fishpond and quite a few birds in the nearby trees. The location of Brambleside was also an attraction for my wife and me. It is peaceful, yet only a few minutes up the hill from Truro and the River Fal. At the same time it was also handy for the main A30 that is the fast link with the rest of Cornwall. So we were able to drive easily to the sheltered fishing villages and gardens of the south coast as well as enjoying the more wild nature of the Atlantic-facing north of Cornwall. Memorable excursions. It was for many reasons the best of four self-catering holidays we have had this year. So much so that we have already booked at Brambleside next May.

Lovely accommodation very professional and the area was gated for extra security.

There were a couple of other accommodations plus the owners residence, but lots of space between so you get plenty of privacy. The grounds were immaculate with a lovely koy pond, little bridge and small wooded area the whole site and accommodation was easily accessible and the Lodge was all on one level with a wet room so perfect for disabled holiday makers. Everything is there, you really don't need to bring anything, not even a dishcloth. You are welcomed with scones clotted cream and jam, cornish biscuits some cider fresh milk ample tea coffee sugar (and even sweeteners). You are made to feel special by Rob and Gill who are incredibly hard working. I would have given 5 stars but found the cooking facilities let it down a little. There was only a 2 ring hob and a combi microwave, so not really adequate for cooking a full dinner, also anyone with a pacemaker please bear in mind the hob is induction heat. Very well situated with supermarkets very close, within a 3 minute drive and lots of restaurants and take aways who deliver. Very central to all the sites, walks and attractions, equal distance to either North or South Coast with lots of beautiful beaches. All in all we had a very pleasant stay and would recommend to couples. Thank you Rob and Gill for making our stay such a lovely one.

The best recommentation I can make about Brambleside is that this was a return visit for my wife and I to a stylish and comfortable lodge.

We returned in May, on the basis of a relaxing stay last November, to find that all the trees and shrubs were now providing a colourful backdrop for our stay. The building's hexagonal shape makes it so different from other places. Less ordinary. Full length windows on three sides include bifold sliding doors opening onto a terrace, where owner Robert put out cushions on the comfy seating in the morning and collected them at night. The sort of service more associated with expensive hotels. He and his wife Jille are welcoming hosts and also generous. Scones, clotted cream and strawberry jam are not the only part of the welcome pack of plentiful supplies of tea, coffee, milk and sugar. There is also Cornish apple juice, shortbread and Cornish cream fudge. We liked the big TV and a player for both DVDs and CDs. It is such a comfortable place for the evenings and one which feels really spacious for a week's stay - or even longer. Waitrose was two or three minutes away, Truro City only two more and the wonderful River Fal estuary very close. It was also handy to drive to the north coast for St Ives, Padstow and Lands End. So, yes, this is a place well worth booking for so many reasons.

I will start by saying that when i read customer reviews i tend to view them with a degree of scepticism, although obviously guided by them when making a choice.

Having read previous reviews for Brambleside Lodge, which are all without exception amazing, my wife and I decided this would be the perfect base for a long weekend break...with it also being located perfectly for exploring Cornwall. What we found was that the reviews remarkably were not only correct, but our experience was relaxing, perfect and joyous. The lodge itself was spotlessly clean, every comfort catered for, and attention to detail amazing...the cream tea provided was a lovely touch, along with cider in the fridge, and a packet of biscuits to have with a cuppa...perfect. This is only half the story though, Rob and Gill our host's were amazing, made us feel so welcome, with nothing being too much trouble...a real pleasure to get to know them....they are very much the reason the lodge is so special...not to mention Matt's woodland walk to the lodge..just lovely! So in conclusion the most we are allowed to award is five star's, but for the very first time if it were possible we would award more, thats how good the experience was. This was our first visit, but will definitely not be our last...look forward to returning soon. David and Donna

There's been a great deal written about the comfort and features of Brambleside Lodge, about it being so handy for exploring both the south and north coasts of wonderful Cornwall.

But it's more than that. It's time to talk about the hosts, Rob and Jill. In pretty much every self-catering place my wife and I have stayed, the owners have been content to hand overe the key (and sometimes not even that) before they vanish without trace during our stay. While Bramleside's owners respected our privacy and left us to enjoy the peace and quiet, they looked after us by, every day, putting out lots of cushions on all of the chairs we used on the terrace during fine days and then collecteing them every evening; something you are used to in good hotels or on ships.. They also have a bar beside their own house in which they were happy to have a drink with us. When my wife mentioned that she had forgotten her shower cap, Jill didn't tell her where she could buy one, she gave one to her. We are going back there next year for a two-week holiday. One reason is that It's a long drive from Surrey. The other reason is that its kind and thoughtful hosts have created what is a home from home.
