What our customers say about their holidays

    • Nina - Verified booking

We absolutely 2 The Bays it’s a wonderful house in a fab location!

There are quite a few maintenance issues we spotted that I thought I should pass on: Lamps in front double bedroom are very dodgy! They cut out and Make strange sparking noises. My son opened the back of the TV remote control in the TV room as it wasn’t working and found it had the wrong batteries and were filled with foil?!? There was a lengthy power cut whilst we were there and there were only a few mostly melted candles and the torches not working to light us - luckily the lovely staff at the Dolphin kindly lent us some candles. Ensuite sink broken, the plug once it is in cannot be taken out, the mechanism to lift the plug isn’t working. The silver bin which used to be in the kitchen for recycling was in the garden and full of bottles when we arrived. We took our bottles to the bottle bank round the back of the Dolphin and put our recycling in the correct bins, but it meant there was no recycling bin in the kitchen and we had to use carrier bags.

Lovely cottage and perfect location (Thorpeness is lovely) - near nearby Aldeburgh, the beach and the local pub and dog walking ideal.

Facilities on the whole very good but the "open fire" on one listing wasnt there - disappointing. The snug where the only TV (very small) is located is probably the sleeping for the 6th person? - not possible for 4 of us adults & dog to sit and watch tv - I know if you are on holiday you are out most of the time but at night (winter) when temperatures drop it would be nice to watch together some Christmas stuff/movie but impossible. The large dining/seating/Christmas tree area would have been so much more appropriate and comfortable and obvious with a more appropriate sized TV??? The heating was a little hit and miss and didn't come on when the temperature dropped. Didnt try to mess with that!

Lovely spacious and well equipped cottage with a large neat garden, with 2 different positions for sitting out and eating. A stone's throw from the beach, and easily located for exploring the attractions nearby. We went several times to the fisherman's huts on the beach at Aldeburgh a mile away to get fresh fish. The plaice we bought had only been caught an hour before! The Dolphin pub a short stroll away had nice food. Our favourite was the Cinnamon Indian restaurant in Leiston with authentic, tasty dishes and generous portions with a public car park opposite. Great for birdwatching at Minsmere and Dunwich not far away. Cycled every day and loved the scenery, but not as flat as I thought.

Exceedingly well equipped kitchen but despite plea from owner we did not “make friends with the Aga”!

Better instructions and where to find them would have been useful. Owner VERY helpful when we phoned with queries about it. The 2 “normal” electric ovens seemed to have faulty thermostats as one over-cooked and one under for the same temperature set. Generally super clean but pet hair over sofas and arm chairs attached itself to clothing and set off allergies in two of the party. One grill pan hidden away with very burnt food on it. All (7) of the party agreed it was a lovely house with lovely location and didn’t want to leave. Have to agree with one of the feedbacks on the steepness and narrowness of the stair treads as great care needed when descending.

We rented this property to celebrate my 70th Birthday with my 2 children their partners and my four grandsons.

We also took our dog who was very happy in the utility area with the occasional foray into the kitchen/lounge. The property is beautifully appointed with the very best in soft furnishings, bedding and good towels. There was far more than we expected provided in the property and we were delighted with the very generous welcome pack. The property is beautifully positioned on the mere and 5 minutes from the beach. There are two good eating places on the mere and we had a lovely Sunday lunch at 'The Dolphin' pub. I couldn't have been happier with the property and if I want another break away with family, or friends, we will be back.
