What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Bennett - Verified booking

This was our first stay at Lismore Cottage. We were very pleased we chose it. It’s very comfortable & cosy. The decor, soft furnishings etc are lovely. A lot of thought has been given to make it feel very homely. And the kitchen is well equipped, the large range cooker is great if you decide to cook in. We loved the fact there was a very smart ceramic water bowl for our dog, and a freshly laundered dog bed as well, including a towel. We’ve never had that in a dog friendly cottage before, so were quite impressed, as was the dog!! A few things as a welcome pack, including fresh milk, and cake, a lovely touch. The garden is secluded, and was well looked after, which isn’t always the case with holiday cottages. As we were blessed with lovely weather, we were able to use & enjoy the garden a lot during our stay. The cottage is on a No through road, so was very quiet, & as it’s set back from the road, any traffic going to the end of the road is hardly noticeable. Generally felt the villagers who live there are on the whole welcoming & friendly. And having the shop (very good), bakers (excellent) & 2 pubs all within walking distance was great. There are lots of lovely walks you can do straight from the cottage, so that is a bonus as well. We had a very relaxing & enjoyable week here, & will return again in the future. I would just add, that the stairs are quite steep, so you need to take care. (But they were perfectly manageable, just don’t rush up or down them! )

First of all I apologise for forgetting to clean up after the dog in the garden.

I have been back today to do it. I feel the cottage is in need of some work to bring it to a suitable standard for holiday rental. There is paint peeling off the wall and damp under the windows at the front. The radiator in the bathroom is in very shabby condition. The sofa is on legs which are not attached to it and having lifted the sofa to retrieve a dog toy we couldn’t fix the legs back and couldn’t use this. The description says ‘two bathrooms’. That is not true and it should be made clear that the bathroom is downstairs and through the kitchen and living areas. It should also be made clear that you cannot just let your dog out for a wee at night because the ‘courtyard’ is across the path and you have to be dressed, have shoes on and have the dog on a lead. Being Christmas we used a lot of the cookware and most of it was grubby. One cooking dish in particular was dirty and had several cracks in it. The Christmas ‘decor’ was very disappointing consisting of a wreath on the door and a tiny tree on the windowsill, both of which seemed very old. The whole place was musty smelling. Orford lovely but the cottage seems as though the owners scrape by doing as little as possible and I think most visitors will be disappointed. I particularly feel the photos are very misleading.

We really appreciated lovely gesture of chocolates and champagne for Christmas - thank you.

Lovely fluffy towels and fresh linen bedding. The property was as described - it is very small, cronky and sweet fisherman’s cottage. The bathroom is tired as per the photo and is on ground floor. It is probably too small for 4 people - we were only 3. Lovely area with The Jolly Sailor nearby for easy friendly evening drinks and food. We felt the owners had tried. There were Christmas decorations. The only criticism was that we did try to clean everything we used in kitchen as pans and utensils generally not clean. I found the teapot in the cupboard still had tea and teabags in it for instance. The kitchen does need some attention in areas around the sink and corner wall. Also in the main bedroom an item of clothing in top drawer- but overall the property was as described. The wood burner was lovely to have and worked very well - easy to control the heat.

We have been going to Orford for several years, but this year our 'usual' rental had been withdrawn from the market. Lismore was a great find. V clean on arrival. It is cosy, the heating TV cooker etc do not need a PhD to work out, bed v comfy, everything we needed was there and all within 3-4 minutes walk of the quay, the pubs and the delightful Orford village shop and tempting bakery. You need to know that the bathroom and loo are downstairs so for us oldies in the middle of the night, be aware. And if the party is four hefty adults, the second bedroom would be 'cosy', but fine for nippers or skinny people. Interestingly, the visitor book was full of "this is our third/fourth visit" - testimony in itself. We shall be returning.

Quite often find that not very useful equipment is included and other basic, nay essential, items are left out. Having said that, the cottage was very comfortable and had sufficient for a week's holiday for two. The location is the draw, has to be one of the prettiest villages on this coast. Do visit Pump House bakery - 5 mins walk from the cottage. Grab a coffee and pastry then wander the lanes - there are lots ! Then go in the other direction, and you're at the quay. Close to Snape Maltings and Aldeburgh. Do visit the village of Thorpeness, near Aldeburgh - has an antiques emporium, a lovely village green with pond and tea room, and fascinating historical houses. And a super walk through the woods.
