The ideal destination for a family holiday, Vesta Cottage has plenty to offer with a gorgeous open-plan living space complete with an extensive sitting area positioned next to an attractive woodburning stove, creating a wonderfully warm and inviting space. The stylish kitchen is fully fitted and comes with all that is needed to produce wholesome food for your holiday party and there is also a separate dining area arranged around a breakfast island for informal and sociable dining.
The bedrooms both offer something different: a ground-floor double with en-suite facilities and an impressive master bedroom with a sumptuous super-king-size bed just waiting for you to sink into it. Both bedrooms have the same impeccable finish and attention to detail and offer a truly relaxing space. The cottage is situated in picturesque Orford, which literally oozes history and is overlooked by a magnificent 12th century castle. The village has a small selection of shops, pubs and a restaurant. Surrounding the village is some of the most beautiful countryside you’ll find anywhere, so is a great area for getting out and about exploring with some fantastic walks, hikes and bike rides to be had.
Just a few miles away are bigger towns such as Woodbridge, Aldeburgh and Southwold with attractions such as Snape Maltings, Framlingham Castle and Yoxford Antiques Centre and Gardens also nearby. Vesta Cottage offers guests a relaxing and enjoyable stay in the heart of a picturesque rural village.
The attractive, unspoiled fishing village of Orford is situated on the bank of the River Alde and looked over by its magnificent 12th century castle built by Henry II. The village is home to a hotel and restaurant, two pubs, village store, bakers and wonderful fish restaurant and smokehouse. Orford is surrounded by farm land and forest in an area known as the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Centrally located, just 12 miles from Woodbridge to the south and Aldeburgh to the north, and just 5 miles from the famous Snape Maltings complex. The village of Orford is steeped in history. Henry II commissioned a castle to be built in the 12th century which is a must see when you visit the area. Owned and maintained by English Heritage you can enjoy this wonderful 'keep' and from the top there are breathtaking views for miles on a clear day.

The cottage was warm and comfortable but there are a significant number of small issues which need dealing with: - mould build up and badly cracking paint on upstairs windowsills - grubby and cracked blinds - living room rug which is far past its sell by date - blister in bath - kettle filter needs immediate replacing - grubby bunting - incorrect instructions for wood burning stove - out of date local recommendations (eg the Crown and Castle listed as belonging to Ruth Watson who left pre-Covid!) One or two of these issues would be acceptable, but all of them suggested a failure to review and maintain the property to an acceptable standard.

A few minor issues we experienced during our recent stay. The two outside lights by the door were not working but due to the streetlight you could still see what you were doing, but would have been useful. We noticed as we walked through the door there was a slight smell of drains, we put bleach down the toilets and sink but it did not appear to cure the problem. The instructions for the log burner seemed to be for a different log burner - but we figured it out! These are very minor points and we are only feeding back so the owners are aware. This did not affect our stay in anyway. We have stayed at Vesta Cottage a couple of times before and always thoroughly enjoy our stay here and would definitely stay again.
