Clearly itâs a very old property however it clearly needs a lot of money spent on it to bring it up to a standard that adequately reflects the rental being charged.
The property is damp. All of our clothes smelt damp and musty when we returned and all had to be washed. There is only 1 standup shower in this 4 bedroom property. Itâs clearly overused and as such there is black mould growing in the shower due to their being no ventilation in the bathroom. The 2nd double bedroom needs a king size bed in their and not a double as itâs far too small for 2 adults. We had to use the same towels for a whole week as there is no mid week change of towels which is again very poor given the price paid for this cottage. The kitchen is full of useless things you would be unlikely to use on a holiday. The space would be much better left empty for your guests to put food in. The property is advertised as no pets but I can assure you there have been animals staying here as you can smell dog in the living room carpet / sofas. There were ample cots / high chairs and a lovely toy basket for babies / toddlers which was a nice touch however some appropriate dinner plates / bowls / cups would have been useful. If you have never stayed in an old cottage then you will definitely get a real old cottage experience here. Location was good but itâs a real shame the crown (pub opposite the house) was only open certain days for drinks with no food menu due to no kitchen staff. This was a common theme across the island in general. Overall I would say this cottage is very overpriced and really needs quite a lot of money spent on it to get it up to a good rentable standard.

Minafon is comfortable, cosy spotlessly clean and well equipped.
It is perfectly situated to explore the local area of outstanding natural beauty, with plenty of easy access walks to the nearby coast path, beach âs and golf course. The town and pubs/ eateries being a short walk up the hill..But beware the speeding milk tankers down the little lane! Jo, the owner, met us and made us feel welcome. The yummy cake, and stocked beer/wine fridge was a lovely addition and most welcome after a long journey. There were plenty of fresh clean bath towels and a thoughtful basket of dog and beach towels. The showers are particularly good with plenty of hot water⦠however the en-suite shower cubicle is quite small, the downstairs shower is spacious enough with lots of room to manoeuvre. The beds are comfy with good quality bedding and a choice of pillows, all smelling clean and fresh. The view from the main bedroom giving lovely views of the estuary. The garden is pretty and dog friendly, providing a space to eat outside or just sit with a cuppa and a book. I think the only thing we missed was a long mirror and a radio/speaker in the kitchen and a bbq.. (Although costly to install, a wood burner in the lounge would make a cosy place to cwtch and snuggle down in winter). We enjoyed our stay even if the weather wasnât the best..The house made up for it and the young adults in our party had no complaints about the WiFi! We will return .. Thank you so much.

The house was spacious and comfortable, lovely comfy beds, well-equipped kitchen.
Fairly clean but nor spotless. Despite instructions provided we failed to get the screen in the living room so couldn't use the television or Playstation or DVD and as we had children with us, we would have been glad of them. The toilet seat in the en-suite bathroom of the master bedroom kept falling off. We had difficulty with the rubbish / recycling which should have gone out on Tuesday morning. We noticed when we got there that the recycling bin was already full to overflowing. There were notes asking us to put rubbish out but the timetable for collection was up to April 2018!!! We tried to calculate which it should be, decided it should be the recycling bin so we put that out - and then the rubbish lorry came and therefore didn't take it!!! By the time we left on Saturday both bins were over-full. Despite these minor irritations we had a lovely relaxing stay and we loved the Crown Inn - the adults for the beer and gun and the children for the swings and duck-feeding. The children also had a lot of fun at the village playground.

Intriguing and interesting well preserved cottage, retaining 1750 alongside 2019 facilities.
Wonderfully plentiful hot water. Excellent beds and linen. Décor and ornaments etc of a very high quality, making the stay one where we felt quite special rather than just holidaymakers .The variety of cooking equipment was not just adequate, it was well thought out and the choice of an AGA or electric cooker must please all chefs! Well appointed bathrooms and convenient utility room and downstairs loo. Amazing to have a landline too, most unusual and clear instructions as to how to use it if necessary, a brilliant touch. The setting next to the beautiful historic church and alongside a great pub and opposite a pretty thatched cottage added to the ambience. The local shop a few moments away was a bonus and there is a local bus route. Shorwell is well placed for visiting Carisbrook, Freshwater, Osborne etc. In fact, nowhere is too far away on the Island. All this added up to a restful holiday where we immediately felt relaxed, unhurried, unworried and at home.

Itâs definitely the nicest holiday home we have ever stayed in , itâs new and beautifully finished with a lovely kitchen and light airy open living space.
The beds are comfy and the bathrooms are immaculate . There are two seating areas on the terraces and we caught some sun having a coffee. We took our two little dogs and the lodge is quiet and peaceful in the evening but close to everything. Locally, you can walk to a Onestop shop and pubs ( 10 mins walk ) and there is a station in Newbridge for a train to Cardiff. If you want to explore we went to Caerleon ( Roman Amphitheatre ) and had great food there at the Hanbury Arms ( they are super dog friendly! ) Abergavenny and Usk have places to eat and shopping with lots of independent businesses. All are worth a visit and very close to the lodge is Cwmcarn Forest - which has varied walks and bike rides - the views were spectacular and thereâs info at the Forest Park Centre. We had a lovely break in the Lodge really enjoyed our week there , Iâd definitely go again.
