What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ms Jones - Verified booking

We stayed at Y Golwg for 14 nights in January 2025 with 2 Collies. The first thing you see when you pull up , is 'the view'. A spectacular panorama of the 3 peaks of Abergavenny. The property itself was tastefully decorated with quality furnishings. The kitchen was fairly well equipped again with quality utensils. The kitchen/living room is open plan with a staircase leading to the upper level. The bathroom has a free standing bath, walk in shower W.C. and wash hand basin with a spectacular view from the huge window. Spacious bedroom, king size bed with beautiful bedding. Towels and toiletries provided. Another wall to wall window looking out over the three peaks. A small cupboard on the landing provided some hanging space for clothes also chest if drawers in the bedroom. Stairs, landing and bedroom carpeted. Downstairs was tiled with under floor heating which worked very well. Lovely local walks from the property but be aware of the sheep. Other places of interest accessible by car ranging from 10 - 30 mins away. Access to the property is via single track road. We had a lovely time but we're very grateful for mostly dry weather. The owners were lovely and communicated quickly by text to any queries I had. The remote location of this property is perfect for those of us who appreciate nature and the out doors.

The accommodation was very spacious and comfortable.

We did not see or speak to the owners at all whilst we were there, which was a little diasappointing: but they live very nearby. A lovely vase of flowers, and a selection of delicious goodies were kindly left in the kitchen area. The bed was really comfortable, and all the furniture and equipment were of a high standard. The surrounding area is beautiful - great for walkers when the weather is good. The Skirrid is only a mile away, and is well worth climbing, as the views from it are fantastic. There are peahens and at least one peacock wandering around outside The Byre, which was a treat! Parking was easy, and convenient. The town of Abergavenny is only a few miles away, and there is Morrison's , Aldi's and Tesco's there. There is a restaurant and a tearoom very nearby. The directions for getting there were very helpful and easy to follow.

Beautiful spot for exploring Brecons and surrounds.

Abergavenny is a super town with good eateries. The cottage was cosy and comfortable. but kitchen wasn’t very clean. No one there to greet us and had we not gone to ask for loo rolls on the first evening I am not sure if we would have seen our hosts at all. Which suits us in many ways. I bought eggs from the farm . Hosts then were very friendly and chatty . We could go anywhere on the farm and see the ponies bred there. Resident dogs were lovely but not when barking during the night around our cottage where they had free range. It did give us a dog fix having left our crew behind. Not much info in the welcome book. One restaurant recommended hasn’t done food for 8 years! But we found the walks we wanted any way and pubs to eat in. A very enjoyable restful quiet break.

We originally intended to stay elsewhere and thank our lucky stars that that didn't work out!

Because it wouldn't have held a candle to our glorious time at The Old Stables. The gracious, charming and witty hostess couldn't help us enough. The accommodation sports a cosy and supremely comfortable bed; the kitchen is well appointed and has everything you need to cook any meal--plus the basic condiments, cutlery and even fresh rosemary and quince jelly. The setting is sublime--peaceful, with only the sound of the nearby river Usk coursing by, an ancient forest, a carpet of copper beech leaves, two affectionate ponies in the pasture. lots of hyperbole here? Only because it's well-deserved. The Old Stables offer anything a body could want for a wonderful restorative break. Looking forward to a return.

We had a lovely stay in Tutshill, as a family of 9 adults.

Beautiful area.Caradoc was ideal and worked well for us.Great kitchen and garden.Lounge slightly snug for 9 adults but ok.It could get a bit chilly in the evenings. Great stay.Would have preferred double quilts on the single beds for adults, as I do at home. One slight niggle was 5 adults using one bathroom, as it obviously wasn’t possible to be all en-suite.Need to do a time table for bathroom usage! Also it would have helped to have labels on kitchen drawers as there was so much provided. Lots of games provided to keep us occupied in the evenings. The property was lovely and clean, bar a few normal scrapes and marks.Would definitely recommend for a larger group of people.Quiet area and good parking.
