What our customers say about their holidays

Orchard Cottage is in such a beautiful location with views of green hills and faraway mountains. It shares a site with the owners' house and another holiday property though there is plenty of space and privacy. Owners Euan and Laura are very friendly and have created a welcoming living environment with a wood-burning stove, well-equipped kitchen and comfortable bedroom upstairs. Outside, through the orchard, you can enjoy the stars warmed by the fire pit which also doubles as a barbecue. Even in October, this was a real highlight of our trip. Once you have taken the short drive from Chepstow, you can leave the car and walk to some amazing places including Tintern and the Eagle's Nest. In the cottage, there is a folder full of maps and leaflets to guide you. We appreciated the owners' attention to detail; they provided very clear directions to the house, lots of information about how to operate appliances etc and a good hamper with some very drinkable red wine! If you have/like dogs, this retreat will be perfect. We don't have any but the resident ones were happy to visit and check we were okay.

Wonderfully equipped Shepard's hut in a beautiful rural location, perfect for a true retreat from the world, we planned to explore the local area, but we enjoyed the peace so much we stayed sitting with the little log fire and a good book watching the squirrels in the woods instead. There is a wealth of information in the local guide left in the hut including laminated maps for walking and cycling. Euan was a wonderful host and looked after us well, leaving a host of goodies for us, and even brought us some delicious sausages to cook on the fire the first night, and helped us out with some petrol before we left! The lanes up were a little dicey, in the dark and rain, I'd recommend approaching from Chepstow side, whilst a bit longer, a much more straightforward journey! Unless you like a long walk, don't walk to the shops, the local one in the village had closed down, and the next one left us with an 8mile round-trip, the bath was certainly very welcome after! We will most certainly be back, and maybe even adventure out next time.

Euan made us feel so welcome when we first arrived and had set the area up beautiful, it was like walking into a fairy tale. Both my husband and I agree that this was the best holiday we have been on. We got the peace and quiet of the countryside with only the owls and robins as neighbours but also the luxury of hot running water, amazing showers, magical bathtub, inside kitchen and an amazing bed. They have really thought of all your needs, comforts and experiences whilst staying with them. The hammock and outside chairs where a dream to have lazy days on with the firepit all prepped for cooking. We felt like we were in our own little world and would have stayed forever. Also the fact that Euan built these huts himself and all the added features to make this stay truly amazing and memorable. Thank you so much for everything, even the fairy who topped up the logs for the fire pit! We will be seeing you again. If there was an option for more Stars you would have given them.

We stayed for five nights over Christmas 2015 and we couldn't fault our stay. We arrived on foot having visited nearby Tintern Abbey (2 miles) whilst it was open over the festive period and we were warmly greeted by Laura, the cottage's owner, who showed us to the little bothy. The cottage interior is very well maintained and exceptionally clean, with very fresh bed linen in the one-bed bedroom (sleeps two in a double bed). Bathroom with bath and shower and plenty of hot water is also situated upstairs. Comfy settee/chairs, central heating and/or wood burner. Kitchen with electric oven/hob, and all the pots, pans, crockery and utensils you need. Would we go back? In a shot. Perfect location for us, lovely, friendly owner who made us feel very welcome to their, clean, tidy, fresh cottage. We have returned home relaxed and with happy memories of our time at Orchard Cottage and we couldn't recommend it highly enough.
