What our customers say about their holidays

    • James - Verified booking

We greatly enjoyed our stay in No.

      3. We all felt immediately at home in the large and well-appointed apartment, which was presented in a clean and homely fashion. The view over the beach to Thurlestone rock is something we never tired of and were lucky to be there during a period of extremely high and low tides, so got to experience the full range of conditions. The entry instructions given to us were accurate and we didn't have to contact Sykes for any help. The welcome hamper from Aune Valley Farm Shop was a lovely touch. The master bedroom, with views over the sea, is very spacious, with a lovely en-suite. The other two bedrooms face inland and are smaller, but also comfortable. The lounge is huge and we spent many hours in there. We would happily return to Thurlestone Apartments for another stay and were sad to leave. It was lovely and everything we hoped it would be. Some room for improvement in a few areas. The door and window locks are sticky and some were unusable. They have been gummed up by salt spray. The main balcony door is drafty. OK in the summer, but it must be cold out of season. Guests will need to keep the main windows clear of salt spray. There is glass cleaning spray under the sink, but the windows had not been cleaned when we arrived. If the Wi-fi isn't working, as it wasn't for us on arrival, just turn it off and on again. Worked a treat thereafter and plenty of bandwidth for all of us to stream. Finally, not a criticism of No. 3, but the building owners should prevent the Housemartins from nesting in the eaves. The large pile of bird droppings at the main door is not the best first impression. For first time visitors, I would advise against taking the lane to South Milton Beach. This is crazy narrow and a test of nerve and reversing skills if faced with oncoming traffic. The road in from Galmpton and Malborough has its narrow bits, but is much easier to navigate.

The property was delivered to us dirty.

There was body hair behind the bathroom door, many of the dishes were dirty as well as the cutlery. The windows were filthy, based on one reason to stay was the view, we had to wash the windows to see out of them. The door lock was temperamental between the bedroom and the balcony, this made it unusable. We had taken the time to recycle, but no bins on site and we were advised to travel miles to dispose of the rubbish. Struggled with this as we are all trying to help the environment. The sofas were uncomfortable and my wife had to sit on a dining chair for most of the week. The beds were great though and very comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and the location was very peaceful. We visited whilst a storm happened, so the waves delivered a real treat as they crashed over the rocks. The hot water was on restricted timings, but we managed this and never ran out, it does take planning. The location was amazing and we’d only wish the pool was running over Easter for the children. We considered rebooking but for the price of £1000 (thereabouts) we would have expected a better standard of cleanliness in the apartment, and comfort in the lounge.

      We were disappointed with Bankside.

We've stayed several times at Seascape and once at Cindy's Retreat with our son and family but this year booked a separate house. Despite being described as "outstanding" Bankside wasn't up to the standard of either. The owners of Seascape make regular upgrades such as the new shower room, and the standard of fitments, furniture, decoration and maintenance are high. Good points, the sitting room is comfortable and the enclosed garden was sheltered. Not so good, the kitchen and bathroom are very dated, the fridge had missing shelves, there's no dishwasher, the shower head dripped loudly randomly and the dining table is old. The plastic outdoor table and chairs were warped and old (not as in photo) and sited on a small, rough area of concrete, contrasting with the beautiful terrace at Seascape. The double duvet is worn out, grubby and stained and the mattress protector also has stains - not the best thing to find on leaving. We had already booked Bankside for 2025 before staying so we hope that our comments are taken positively and lead to improvements as we are now apprehensive about next year. With some care and attention Bankside could be fabulous!

Bankside is in a great location for exploring this pretty part of Devon, great for walks straight from the door.

The property itself does have a few maintenance issues, no lock or bolt on gate to left of property so not secure for dog in back garden. However the bungalow is well equipped.Mobile signal not great but understandable in this part of the world. We had a major issue on departure day as we thought we had locked our car keys in our car while loading just prior to departure. Massive problems resulted, too much to go into. However the cleaner, Stacey who arrived at the property during this event was fantastic in helping us.She went far and above all expectations, she showed so much concern for our predicament and would not rest until things were resolved for us. We had to arrange alternative accommodation in Hope Cove, which she helped sort out, thanks also to Gwen the manager at C&C Salcombe.Stacey even brought shopping in for us and drove us to the new accommodation. Gwen also dropped supplies to us, wonderful people. Stacey is an absolute credit to your business and deserves the upmost praise in her customer care, we cant thank her enough, without her we would have been completely stumped. Thank you a million times Stacey, a brilliant girl.

Bankside was comfortable, warm and clean although there were a lot of cobwebs and spiders not that they bothered us.

The drive is very steep and we grounded our car (Skoda Octavia) on the first attempt so parked on the street for the duration of our stay - the photos don’t really show the steepness of drive but something for people to be aware of. The front bedroom smelt very musty/damp but we slept in the back room so this didn’t affect us. The Mira shower was excellent after a long day hiking. The bungalow is about 5 minutes walk from the coastal path and we had some lovely hikes from the house. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the pub in Hope Cove although it is a walk back uphill to the bungalow but isn’t too steep. Maybe suggestions would be for some maps/walking books and a tray/rack for boots/shoes to be provided - we used newspaper in the conservatory for muddy boots. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would stay at Bankside again if in the area.
