What our customers say about their holidays

    • Ed - Verified booking

      Irene is a superb host.

Her attention to detail combined with some beautiful touches makes Lakeside Cottage a true home a way from home. The hamper we received was so generous and thoughtful for our arrival and there was plenty of wood there to keep the fires going. The house is so comfortable and inviting and the chrome cast available meant we could watch Netflix and our favourite movies. The cottage is located in a very peaceful and tranquil place with lovely views at sunrise and sunset. If you want some quality rest and recuperation I couldn’t recommend anywhere more suitable. A lovely 6km walk around the lake was so invigorating and many more walks to do. Roscommon was never on our list of places to go but after this visit it’s now one of the hidden gems especially with the beautiful surroundings and sense of serenity and solitude. Carrick on Shannon is 20 mins drive and we had a very friendly taxi driver who was inexpensive. Boyle is also nearby with some nice places to visit. Everyone we met on our walks were so friendly and we can’t wait to return sometime soon. Ed and Callum

      It was an awful experience.

From the listing information to the engagement from the Sykes cottages staffs and the host herself was nothing to talk about. Should I say we were treated awful because we are blacks or is it just their way of treating people. The cushions and blankets smells awful, the bar was dirty not clean, the room mattresses and sheets were awful and the worst of all the water supply is pumped. Therefore, you all can't have a shower at a go which means you have to take turns. And when we complained it was disastrous. Overall, it wasn't an holiday we went for it was a war. If not for the kids and the ferry that we've booked in advance we won't last days there. You know the feeling that your home is better than the holiday you paid a fortune for. That's how we felt and the host was like she rented the place cheap to us as if we were given some kind of discount. We paid the amount advertised on the website without any discount so how is it cheap?. To top it up it's in the middle of no where, literally nothing exciting for the kids to do.

Hi we enjoyed our stay nice quiet location house was very clean and tidy inside, kitchen was very well equipped and spotless, the beds were not the best to sleep on , shower heads were poor in some bathrooms our room was tied up with a shoe lace, it worked but we were all looking forward to a good shower and nice bed back home, outside was very overgrown and as we looked out windows there was a lot of overgrown weeds nettles etc, concrete outside patio area was very poorly finished as our youngest had a fall after tripping on rough surface and grazed her knees BBQ was a lovely idea and we did use it but there was no utensils so we did struggle a bit when using the bbq, the end of the lane turning out on to road was dangerous, somebody had to get out of the car each time to check the road, on the other small roads we did notice mirrors were used to see both ways this could work here as well, we loved our stay we spent most of our time in enniscrone village we loved it there,

      Excellent!

We rented County Meath Castle for our 15 anniversary of family vacations. The Castle was fabulous, perfect to accommodate our party of 16. The kids had a ball between the great room, the patios, the dining halls, and so many sitting areas we'd find ourselves hanging out in different parts of the castle and addition at all times of day. The grounds and courtyard were equally terrific. We took advantage of the concierge service by having a chef cooked and served dinner, a limo driver who took us for a tour of sites through the Boyne Valley, and a professional photographer who did a fabulous job recording our vacation. We had to postpone the vacation three times because of the pandemic, quarantine, and a family health emergency and Oliver's Travels was gracious and understanding in granting our request. I couldn't be more satisfied with the way we were treated and would recommend Oliver's Travels to any traveler.
