What our customers say about their holidays

    • Janet - Verified booking

Where do I start, I have been to this property about 4 times, I like where its situated, I like its a bungalow ( i live in a bungalow, i have disabilities), and has a garden for my dogs.

We had a pretty rough journey down, snow & hail etc.... my dogs were desperate to go out, no matter what I did, I couldn't open the back door, it was stuck fast, even the person with me couldn't open it... but what hit us first was, the smell of smoke, someone had been smoking in the kitchen & the conservatory. The door that was between the conservatory & the kitchen, was propped up off its fixings with a note saying do not touch, attached to it. The whole building was freezing too, because of it. When we eventually got the back door open, the dogs ran out to relieve themselves and my youngest found a piece of chocolate cake on the patio chair & ate it! She had a funny tummy for the rest of the holiday, as you may be aware, chocolate is toxic to dogs. Later on my eldest dog found chicken bones, when we looked, the bins were overflowing and full of fat, a computer monitor and a spare tyre! There was a broken mirror in the wardrobe, a big blue stain on the carpet & when I started using the pots, they were all dirty... I left the ones I wasn't going to use, I'm not washing other peoples dirty pots! The whole place had its of dirty marks on walls & doors & just seemed really unloved. The garden did get a trim & looked better than previous times we've been. It'd sad really, as I said I've been lots of times before, but this time it looked really sad. Someone did come & empty the bin, but.it was still full of fat. I enjoyed my holiday because I love Nevyn. But the house is very rundown now. I'm booked in later in the year, unless things change, I'm not going to stay in the property. The sofa's are not comfy at all. The shower head is full of black & needs a good sterilisation. The whole 0lace needs a good clean up & maintenance plan. The beds are comfy, bedding & towels clean. The dishwasher had a note on saying it was leaking so to put a towel on the floor when.its used to catch.the water! I didn't use it. The heating was.on most.of the time we where there but it was really cold all the time in lounge & kitchen because the conservatory door couldn't be closed as it was off its runners. Shame really. But Nevyn is lovely and my favourite place.

We had an amazing time at Owl Cottage.

The hot tub was awesome; definitely the highlight! We also loved that we could let our dog wander without worrying as the plot is completely enclosed. The location is fantastic on a beautiful farm, tucked right at the bottom with only the sound of birds chirping and sheep baa-ing! Visiting the Alpacas was a treat too. The walk to Hells Mouth is about 35 mins and is a spectacular wild beach. We loved that all the local beaches are dog friendly, even in the summer, which is not the case in places like Pembrokeshire. We were disappointed that the field at the bottom of the cottage was inaccessible as it was totally overgrown (it looked mowed in the pics); we would’ve liked to let the dog play there. I found the bed very comfortable but my husband struggled. The sofa bed wasn’t much better for him. All the amenities you’d expect, only missing a peeler for the carrots! The oven took some getting used to but there was an instruction manual to help. I assumed the lack of salt, pepper, sugar, tea and coffee is a Covid precaution so be sure to take your own. The Wi-fi only worked for one day while we were there, so we couldn’t use Netflix etc and there’s no phone signal. But tbh I love being cut off from the world on holidays like this and enjoyed watching normal TV and reading. Outdoor chairs were very comfy. There are washing machines in the building near the glamping should you need them. We would definitely return if it wasn’t for my hubby hating the bed!

Owl Cottage is very clean and tidy, it has a very comfortable bed so we slept well every night.

It is very tastefully decorated and furnished to a high standard. The private hot tub was lovely, we spent a lot of time relaxing in it. As it is covered it can be used even if the weather isn't dry, which is good. Lovely little patio yard area with BBQ facilities. A great sun trap! It is worth mentioning that despite the cottage listing saying that there is WiFi, in Owl Cottage there is none. We also couldn't get a mobile phone signal inside the cottage either. A few yards up the driveway phone signal becomes available again! This can be a negative or a positive aspect of a holiday, depending on your point of view! But no WiFi when it says there is, is disappointing. Especially as Netflix could be used for free *if* WiFi worked in the cottage. We couldn't access the field adjacent to the cottage which was disappointing as we could have let our dogs run in there, but it was overgrown and inaccessible. It is also worth noting that although there is a good size fridge in the cottage, it doesn't have a freezer compartment. The hosts were friendly, I helped out with an alpaca trek one day which was a lovely experience. There was minimal contact with the hosts even though they live next door, which for us was perfect as we knew they were on hand if needed but not interfering. Guests might wonder why it is called Owl Cottage, despite no owl decor.....book a holiday there and you will find out for yourselves! Amazing!

The bungalow is well positioned for exploring Nefyn and the beach without using a car.

The housing estate is peaceful and had good dog walking along a country lane just at the end of the road. I found the property comfortable and clean, particularly the main double bedroom and the kitchen diner. I'm not spider phobic, but someone who was might find the shower and bathroom's many spiders and spider webs a bit much! Perhaps the cleaners could run a feather duster around the ceiling and walls, and not leave the window open. The front room seating was fine for me, but a family would find the two seater settee and single chair hard and difficult to relax in. The oil fired heating was superb, so quick to heat the water and radiators. The back garden is small but secure so my shitzu dog had a good time exploring the admittedly overgrown shrubbery! On sunny days the outdoor seating and conservatory were lovely for relaxing. The information file on the bungalow was very comprehensive and helped with operating the dishwasher and microwave. The useful numbers came in handy as I needed the services of a vet, and was pleased that the practice recommended in the file were happy to give me an appointment the next day, and dealt efficiently with the problem. I would definitely rebook or recommend this property to friends. Thanks also for the fruit cake, butter and milk left.

This property is ideal, well located and has more or less everything you need.

There are however a few issues that need sorting out in order to make your stay even better. These issues have been mentioned on previous reviews but nothing has been done about them. We found the TV and free view difficult to operate and most of the time there is no signal, there are only instructions for the free view but none for the TV. The front bedroom needs blackout curtains because the light from the street is very bright. The microwave door handle is loose/broken at the bottom. The conservatory door does not have a lock and the door to the garden is quite difficult to lock. The paving slab on the step out to the garden is loose and broken so needs repairing asap before someone trips on it. The garden gate latch is broken and can only be opened from outside. These are little things that could do with some attention. There is ample parking, enclosed rear garden for your dogs, a nice little patio with seating. It is only a 10-15 minute walk to the beach or shopping facilities. There are plenty of green areas and a childrens playground close by, so all in all the property has everything you need. The owner left us some milk, butter and bara brith which is a Welsh fruited tea loaf. All were well received. Would we stay here again? Yes most definitely.
