If you if you need a pet friendly option for you and your pampered pooch you're bound to find what you're looking for in Derbyshire.

Things to do on a Derbyshire cottage holiday

Predominantly a rural region, Derbyshire encompasses a large part of the Peak District, a stunning National Park that's characterised by rugged uplands and moorland, such as Kinder Scout. The area feels very remote and is the ideal spot for an adventure. There are lots of ways to explore the Peak District hiking, cycling and even on horseback. Stay in one of many pet-friendly holiday cottages in Derbyshire and your favourite friend can even come along with you.

Scattered throughout Derbyshire's rolling hills, you'll find lots of historic and picturesque towns and villages. Bakewell, for instance, is considered to be one of the finest towns in England and, yes, it is the birthplace of the Bakewell tart! If you're looking for something livelier, the city of Derby lies along the river Derwent and is awash with museums, galleries, and a magnificent Gothic cathedral.

Derbyshire is less touristy than somewhere like Cornwall or the nearby Lake District. But it's definitely worth exploring if you want a holiday to remember. The sheer number and quality of holiday cottages in Derbyshire makes this pretty part of the UK ideal for unforgettable family trips or romantic getaways.

Encompassing swathes of the Peak District, Derbyshire is a top place to stay. With luxury cottages on offer you can enjoy your next staycation in style. Whether it's as a romantic retreat or a family getaway, there will be a place for you in this lovely county.

The Peak District is, of course, a popular place to go in this county. With plenty of opportunities for walking and cycling, as well as stunning views; it's easy to see why. However, this isn't the only attraction of Derbyshire. Both in and out of the National park there are numerous pretty towns and villages in which to enjoy a luxury cottage holiday. It's just the place to unwind and enjoy a slower pace of life.

What our customers say about their holidays

    • Kieran - Verified booking

      Property perfectly located for walkers.

Lots of public footpaths in the area. Easy to find. Nice helpful owners. Hugely spacious interior and exterior. Cosmetically charming. Garden has large table with plenty of seating. Parking is good. We took two cars and had no issues. Mostly quiet with the exception of a repetitive beeping coming from the security keypad of the adjacent property. Very annoying at night when windows are open. Nice welcome note and complimentary bottle of wine and cake etc. Including 10% off in local farm shop cafe. Which was also high quality and well stocked. Kitchen facilities were brilliant. Plenty of crockery and cutlery. Dishwasher and washer dryer easy to use. 'Sharp' Knives on the blunt side (no suprise for rented accommodation). Cooker is amazing. Double oven excellent. Plenty of food/drink storage. Plenty of seating around dining area. Very spacious and comfortable. Huge living room. Plenty of seating. Very comfortable and cozy. Living room TV on the small side for such a large room. Awful sound quality. Free to view TV is good. Internet connection poor, bit of a let down for accommodation that sleeps so many, but understandable given property location. Downstairs shower nice and spacious. Shower screen allows water to splash everywhere, meaning wet floor and foot towel. Nice soaps and lotions. Tap is a bit leaky. Front door very difficult to open and close. Used back door instead. Somewhat of a potential fire hazard, but understandable given the recent extremes of temperature in UK. Bedrooms spacious. Beds and bedding comfortable. Odd number of TVs in rooms, but we didn't expect any, so still a nice suprise. Shared/family bathroom is very big. Toilet cistern seems to be running however. Had to adjust ballcock a few times to remedy this. Ensuite is lovely. Nice big bath. Plenty of hot water on supply. Outlet drains a bit slow. From the outside there appears to be a wasp nest in the guttering between master bedroom with Ensuite and double bedroom. Wasps left us alone, but could be heard in the dressing area of the master with Ensuite. Not a huge issue, worth mentioning as sometimes structural issues can result. 09:30 checkout and being asked to strip all beds is a little early and s little odd. Not something we've experienced before. Overall a lovely and restful stay in a beautiful, comfortable, clean property and environment.

We had a lovely week at Ivy Dene. The house was 2 houses at one point and has been joined together but keeps the unused second front door, so is bigger than you'd expect. Lovely for family life with teens to have the extra sitting room and also 2 places to eat. Very comfortable, with everything you need (probably the most well equipped kitchen we've ever found in a holiday cottages, including plastic cutlery and plates, and good, sharp kitchen knives - makes such a difference!). Crich rec is opposite the cottage with a play park and space to kick a ball, and we did some walks from Crich. Also recommend the Greyhound pub and Crawford Mill (the pub in Crich doesn't currently do evening meals). Nottingham Castle is great, lots of interactive displays and a play park (for under 12s). Fave walk, Lathkill Dale near Bakewell, absolutely stunning. A really comfortable and enjoyable week away, made by having such a pleasant base to return to. Loved sitting out in the pretty garden too.

The four of us, plus dog, enjoyed a lovely Christmas week at Ivy Dene. The house was cosy and warm upon going through the door, and very tastefully decorated with a beautiful tree aside the bay view window of the sitting room. There was lots of space, the house if a characterful solid construction and despite being in the heart of Crich, it was perfectly peaceful. Loved the kitchen which was well provided for in terms of pans, crockery and equipment such that nothing was lacking and the quality of everything was good too. Lots of walking to be had from the doorstep, even if it is wet and muddy, there are lots of quiet lanes for miles. The local pub, Indian restaurant and fish bar were all super and reached by foot within a minute, as was a pleasant artisanal bakery. We loved our stay and hope to return to try the experience during a summer next.

Beautiful property with plenty of space, much bigger than I expected. The rooms were really nicely decorated and the standard of cleaning was excellent. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were spacious enough for 6 people, there was even a room with a view of the garden for morning coffee if you felt like escaping. On arrival we had the distinct feeling that the Homeowners had thought about our stay and they provided everything we might need. We felt at home right off the bat. The location was quiet and there were lots of places to visit within easy reach. Locally, the Black Swan pub was very good and the Jeera Indian restaurant was outstanding. We would highly recommend staying at this property.

A super cottage in a wonderful location. We arrived for a christmas break and the decorations were beautiful and very festive, the facilities were really home from home for us. Local walks with the dog, the choir service in the square and the lovely artisan shops in the village all added to the stay. Towards the end of our stay we unfortunately had a car accident which left us without a car and means to get home, Jerry the host was extremely understanding and did everything to enable us to extend our stay until we managed to sort everything out. A host with most, thank you Jerry.
