About this property

Nestled in a small terrace of beautiful period cottages, right next to the river Avon in Tewkesbury, adjacent to the historic King John's Bridge, lies Avonmede Cottage. A traditional, cottage dating back to the early 1800's, it has been tastefully furnished using William Morris and Co interiors to stay true to the period. Lovingly restored to its former glory, the cottage is a perfect choice for those wishing to experience a quaint and dog-friendly, romantic getaway. With original low beams, and old elm floors, it is set on multi-levels, with nooks and crannies to explore – just remember to mind your head! Step into the inviting living/dining room, where you can curl up on the plush seating in front of the warming electric fire and select a much-loved film on the TV, ready to enjoy with your favourite tipple in hand. Conjure up a delicious meal in the well-equipped kitchen, ready to savour at the dining table as you plan the following day's itinerary. On warmer evenings, why not fire up the barbecue and dine alfresco out in the rear enclosed garden, followed by a relaxing dip in the bubbling hot tub? Indulgent soft bath robes are provided to wrap up in after a lovely evening watching the stars in the secluded outdoor hot tub which is just made for two. Make your way back inside to freshen up in the well-appointed shower room after a day of adventure. Continue upstairs to find a handy cloakroom, as well as a light and airy double bedroom with wrought iron bed, fitted with indulgent soft Egyptian cotton linen bedding, overlooking the nearby river. Right on your doorstep, you can treat your other half to a meal at the oldest pub in Tewkesbury, Browns Garden, dating back to the 1500’s. Tewkesbury has a plethora of activities to enjoy, boating, fishing, museums, and antique centres, as well as cafes, pubs and shops that are all dog friendly. Venture further into the town, where you can tour the Tewkesbury Museum, visit the fascinating Tewkesbury Battlefield, well-known for where the War of the Roses came to head, dine at Gupshill Manor, picnic in the Vineyards Park, enjoy wildlife rich walks through the Tewkesbury Nature Reserve, or enjoy leisurely strolls along the River Severn and up towards the River Avon. Next stop is Cheltenham, home to the popular Gold Cup held annually at the racecourse in March, as well as The Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, the Pittville Pump Room and the Victorian Everyman Theatre. Further afield, you’ll find Gloucester, where you can visit the attractions of Gloucester Cathedral, National Waterways Museum and the Gloucester Docks. You are also at the gateway to the Cotswolds and the Malvern Hills. Your Cotswolds adventure begins at Avonmede. Note: This property can be booked with Ref. 1071199, together sleeping up to four guests.

Located at the meeting of the rivers Severn and Avon, this picturesque town has managed to preserve its mediaeval charm while gaining an abundance of Tudor-style half-timbered structures. Tewkesbury is home to approximately 350 historic structures that have been designated as National Historic Landmarks, making it one of the best mediaeval Black and White townscapes in the country. There are many unique boutiques, tea rooms, restaurants, taverns, and wine bars in addition to the town's spectacular abbey, which dates back to the 12th century and features the tallest Norman tower in all of England. Throughout the year, the community hosts a variety of festivals, including a rural market, a farmers market, a vintage fair, and a food fair. The town's proximity to the Severn Way and Shakespeare's Avon Way makes it a great starting point for a number of scenic hikes. Cheltenham, a nearby spa town, is known for its stunning Georgian architecture and wide variety of restaurants, bars, and shopping. This lively city also hosts a variety of other festivals, including those celebrating literature, jazz, science, cricket, food and drink, and comedy. Every year, the track hosts the prestigious Gold Cup races, and it also hosts a number of other horse races. There are Roman ruins, Victorian docklands, and a magnificent Norman cathedral in Gloucester, the cloisters of which were utilised as a filming site for the Harry Potter movies. Lots of dog walks close by and just at the end of the high street. We loved everything about the cottage recently done to a very high standard. We parked close by in Oldbury Road car park for just £4 per day which you can do on Ringo app. Much appreciated welcome basket and lovely thought of dog bed, towel, treats. Would love to stay again.
