What our customers say about their holidays

    • Katarzyna - Verified booking

Reception feedback Reception on site - not pleasant and not willing to help.

I have been challenged for face covering despite being exempt and wearing bracelet but the receptionist who did not wear the face mask herself. On the question why am I being challenged she said "my boss told me to do so". When Ive asked either she understand the law and either she is not allowed to ask me this question - she didnt bother. When Ive asked why she is not wearing one, she said "my boss told me not to wear one as Im behind the window" - what a joke. Phones were down with no information to customers at all. It was the hottest week in the UK but we were unable to use outside swimming pool because some filter got broken. absolute joke to dont have a critical spares on side in case of any issues. The reception seemed not bothered at all and only displayed the notice that swimming pool is out of order without any indication how long this will take. Nobody on arrival. Unable to find property we booked. Went to pub to ask the question and yet rude woman asked me to leave because she is not reception and she could help if I tell her where do I stay (haha) which I didnt know from Sykes booking. Left and avoided the place. Property - owner feedfback Property itself great fit for our family. Very well equipped home. The frying pans were out of use but after communicating with the owner, I had replacement within hour (yes! within an hour). Owner very amazingly supportive, directed me to the property as Sykes booking website has failed to provide clear details how to find the property. Paul - the maintenance guy very friendly, came and resolved heating issue for me. He meant to come every day to clean the hot tub but he has not arrived in last 2 days - pity. Location amazing, quiet, green in the middle of nowhere really but with 25min drive to the beach. Local towns lovely (Looe charming). It was amazing stay! Id recommend 100%.And owner first class as I said - very supportive! Dont bother with reception and pub - you dont need them to have a lovely holiday !!

Had an excellent at Gennaker, the property was clean, light and had a high standard of appliances and furniture.

The location was convenient for touring the South West, we normally stay in St. Ives and was nice to not be in the constant traffic jam trying to get into St.Ives. It was convenient to the south west coastal path to walk into St. Ives (especially as it meant we passed the awesome Porthminster beach and cafe on the walk). It was a short walk to Carbis Beach which is safe, quite and very very clean (only thing to be aware of, its a VERY steep walk so is hard work on the walk back). As in other reviews the walls are pretty thin so you can hear the neighbors, tbh this was not a big deal for us as we spent most of our time outside of the apartment. One important piece of feedback for the owner (which I believe has been repeated in other reviews), the instructions for the heating make no sense. They talk of turning a dial to 1, there are no dials on the heating controls only buttons. Luckily I have seen this type of heating control before so could work out how to turn the under floor heating on. However, if you have not seen this type of unit before it is VERY confusing, there are buttons on the control unit, buttons on the boiler and then dials on the thermostat in each room. I REALLY think you need to look at these instructions as the 'stress' of trying to work out the heating unit is a bad start to any holiday. Anyhoo, we had a fab stay and apart from the heating instructions which is a minor minor point, this is a very good property which is good value for money. Thanks so much

The photos completely misrepresented the lodge.

On arrival the hot water wasn't working. When I called the number from my bookung email I spoke to a very well meaning gentleman from the cleaning company. He was helpful and very apologetic but did let slip that the owner said they would contact us to let us know about the lack of hot water. I'm still waiting for this information from the owner. A plumber was apparently booked to come the next morning. No one arrived. The helpful gentleman from the cleaning company allowed us to move to the lodge next door which is owned by the same people. We saw the plumber arrive late in the afternoon so thank goodness we moved beforehand. The general disrepair of the whole lodge was very different to the photos. I would not recommend these lodges to anyone. Sykes Cottages who we booked through were helpful throughout and the gentleman from the cleaning company was too. However the owners severely let down the whole holiday.

We have been to Cornwall many times but Wide Horizons was cleaner than any cottage before.

The cottage is equiped with everything you need. There is nothing missing. The beds are very comfortable. A lovely conservatory to sit in comfortably after a walk. There is plenty of seating in the garden when the weather is nice. It is a wonderful place to start for hikes. We can highly recommend the cottage in a very quiet location. There was building work going on the first days when we arrived, but we were hiking during the day and then able to pull back into the driveway in the evening. So we were able to avoid the noise. The weather was fortunately very nice to go on excursions. Strolling through the beautiful town of Coverack in the evening was wonderful. We would love to book the cottage again if we want to holiday in the area.

I have complained twice now with no real recourse or solution.

I complained about the cleanliness of the lodge we stayed in on both occasions and also the poor maintenance of the lodge. In all fairness the app and website of Sykes was very easy to use but that is just about all I can say that is positive. The park was advertised as having entertainment but there was only 2 activities on the whole week we stayed. We complained to the housekeeper and maintenance who appeared to be the same person about cleanliness and a broken tap, neither were very well resolved. Overall it just put a dampener on what would have been a lovely week. It is a shame but this privately owned lodge has probably put us off using Sykes again..
