"The house was what we expected from the photo's online however we felt it was expensive in comparison to similar properties elsewhere. One of the reasons we did book was because there was a lack of high quality properties on the island for the dates we required. I would rate this as a 3 star property rather than a 4.Cleanliness was not really an issue but there was a significant amount of cobwebs everywhere, very evident and could not be missed by anyone undertaking any cleaning. This did not mean that the rest of the house was not clean but it certainly looked unpleasant. The bathrooms could benefit from updating, including better finishing (the boxing and tiling around the downstairs toilet is badly done and just ruins the appearance.Plenty of kitchen utensils, nothing missing that would be required to cook pretty much any meal. Knives were very blunt but I've yet to stay in a property that doesn't have blunt knives which is why I take my own set. Unusually there was a knife sharpener but it would be nice if the owners could spend a short amount of time between occupation to sharpen the knives, it makes all the dfiference.Plenty of space for parking outside the house and a small enclosed garden opposite with a kettle barbecue and wooden table and chairs. The furniture would really benefit from a new coat of staining and weatherproofing which would then make it look somewhere enticing to sit down and eat from. The window frames and front door would also benefit from a fresh lick of paint, this would not detract from the character of the house quite the opposite.The area around the house and parking spots is full of weeds and looks unattractive, a simple problem to resolve and one which would remove the eyesore.The beds were comfortable enough but nothing special. Sufficient towelling is provided, classic white, bath towels and hand towels. There are no hand towels in the bathroom or downstairs shower room nor anywhere to hang one near the sink after washing your hands. You'll find soap for the handbasins in the wicker basket on the kitchen table.Wi-fi is available but a bit spotty and coverage isn't great. You also have to log back in to the router if your device goes into rest mode, this is a minor irritation for the most part however be mindful of this if you're sending large amounts of data and your screen saver kicks in or device goes into sleep mode.There is a separate rental apartment above the property which was occupied at the same time by a family with a young child. We experienced absolutely no problems with noise and if I hadn't known they were there I'd have assumed it was empty. Likewise the adjoining house that sleeps four, upon our arrival the occupants (four young men) were having a barbecue and listening to music. Once inside the property we heard nothing unless you went to the upstairs bedroom and listened outside the window. If we hadn't seen them when we arrived we would have had no idea that there was a party going on next door.As mentioned a barbecue is provided (in very good condition) and plenty of charcoal in the cupboard housing the boiler however we didn't have the opportunity to make use of it as we made alternative arrangements.There is a reference manual in the lounge explaining the rules of the property, advice about rubbish disposal,the local area etc and also a request for feedback. I have e-mailed the owner with some constructive feedback but unfortunately have not received a reply, much of it was what I have mentioned in this review.The house is nice enough, it's not a luxury property by any stretch but with a little bit of attention to certain aspects it would make a noticeable difference for not much effort. I do feel it is overpriced however the location is very good and plenty to see and visit nearby."

"The lodge was in an excellent location, but was not ‘luxury’ as described. It lacked many basic essentials eg kitchen utensils, bath mat in shower room, laundry basket, placemats and the cleaning materials were sparse (take your own!). There was so little crockery for a family of five that we had to run the dishwasher half full or we’d run out - not very eco friendly. Only one towel was supplied for each person. The lodge afforded beautiful views through dirty windows and the dishwasher was not emptied on our arrival. The shower did not drain properly and overflowed. For an eco lodge, there was no provision for composting, not all bulbs were energy saving, there was an oil filled radiator in the lounge (flue installed for wood burner but no burner!) and the whirlpool bath took lots of water and energy to use (plus the plug was broken so water level dropped and bathroom got sprayed as a result!). The car parking was not directly outside, and although this did not bother us, the nearest spaces to the lodge seemed to be occupied by staff at the Mill, not reserved for guests. On returning to the lodges in the dark, there was no external lighting on the path to the lodges. It was the first cottage we have been to that didn’t leave a welcome pack of tea, milk etc, but you were entitled to free tea and cake at the Mill cafe each day. We used this once, but as we were out every day 10-5 when the cafe was open we would have preferred these items in the lodge. The biggest problem was WiFi. This was only available in the cafe despite there being a hard wired BT Hub in the double bedroom. The use of the Mill grounds was a bonus, but we were informed that we were only entitled to one free game of adventure golf during the week, and we were not permitted to take out a boat out of hours; even at our own risk. The pedalos were also all broken which disappointed our children. Really we feel that although the lodge was good, it was not excellent, and lacked the attention to detail that we have become accustomed to at other holiday properties."

"STRONGLY advise not to book. The cottage was poorly laid out and quite grimy on arrival and the person who met us to hand over the keys and show us around was clearly not keen or comfortable to be there. After complex instructions about not using too many power sockets at the same time as this will blow the fuse and she is the only one with access to the fuse box, she attempted to change a blown lightbulb (an eco-long life bulb!) and broke it in the socket. It was over one of the child's beds and she was going to just leave it! After we insisted it was changed and done it ourselves she also told us one of the bedrooms did not have any working sockets. We were left feeling the electrics were unsafe! After she left we found that the cottage was not well cleaned, we had to clean the bath before using, floors were not well hoovered, kitchen surfaces were dusty and grimy etc. and the back door was falling apart!I would STRONGLY advise anyone NOT to book this cottage. The price quoted does not include the £50.00 cleaning fee later charged and to cap it all the owner then claimed we left the cottage in such a mess that she had to keep and additional £70 of our deposit to cover additional cleaning. We were only there for two full days, most of which we were not in the house AND my wife is a bit OCD about cleanliness and we had to clean parts of the house ourselves on arrival. We categorically and vigorously dispute her claims yet she refuses to enter in to any communication. She has told the letting agent about me harrassing her with phone calls, saying I had left ten messages. I left one as she refused to answer any calls or text messages and I had to get the agent to contact her about our deposit. This for us has ruined a pleasant, short (2 day) family holiday."

"On a positive note the location of the Old stable is very good and provides easy access to the whole island. It is close to Newport where the big supermarkets are. The kitchen has lots of plates, bowls and equipment. The walk from the door is lovely. There are lots and toys and games for the children and the kids room is sweet. The laundry/boot room is handy. The bees are great. Personally I would not recommend the property for lots of reasons. The photos advertising it are old, the Old stable is a lot more worn than it appears. The kitchen is cramped as the aga is not working a gas cooker has been put on the end of a counter making the kitchen further cramped. It is also in a dangerous position when you have small, boiling pan height children trying to get past.The downstairs is dark and cold with one of the bedrooms downstairs. My 11 year old chose to sleep in with his little brothers as it's a very depressing room.The upstairs is brighter but still tired and in need of some care and attention. The children were covered in either rug hairs or dog hairs everytime they lay on the rug. The sofas are uncomfy, lumpy and old. There is lots of damage(cup stains, marks on things) meaning it not only adds to the sad feel but means making sure we got our deposit back (which we did) seemed harder as we weren't sure of all the previous damage. Having paid a £50 non refundable cleaning charge I would have hoped everywhere would be spotless but it needs a deep clean everywhere. We could see the house was once loved but it either needs a big renovation or a lower price. Overall it has a slightly gloomy and depressing feeling and we were glad to go home."

"Our second annual stay at Sandrock and our high expectations after our first visit were all we had hoped for from what is clearly a well specified, comfortable family home not a run of the mill holiday let.We have a large, well behaved, friendly German Shepherd and once we closed the front gate we were happy for her to roam free in the enclosed garden and driveway. The rear panoramic views are fantastic and the local village shops are very friendly. National Trust run car parks are within a short drive for beaches. The access road to the cottage is about 300 yards up an unmade country lane but we had no problems navigating our hired Hyundai i800 (approx. transit van sized) either up the lane or up onto Sandrock's L-shaped gravel drive. Once on the drive I could turn it around to face outwards again in about a 7-9 point turn. A tip if returning when it has been raining, you might find the grip/traction easier to turn onto Sandrock's drive if you turn around about 20 yards further up the lane and drive on to Sandrock's drive facing down rather than up the lane.Would highly recommend The Crown Inn at Shorwell and The Wight Mouse Inn at Chale for good pub restaurant food or the Tamarind in Newport for Indian eat-in or takeaway food (special fixed price menu twice weekly)."
