"We enjoyed our stay at the Stables. The owners were very helpful and friendly. They allowed our dog to walk/run in the field adjacent to their home which we appreciated. It is a nice homely cottage. The kitchen and diner are spacious. The lounge is nice - but the sofas and chairs could do with replacing as the seats have lost their oomph and are not very comfortable as well as being very low. The cottage was very clean and we had a good choice of kitchen equipment to use. However, a better clothes horse (more sturdy) or a retractable washing line would be useful as not everything can be dried in the washer dryer.I should explain that the cottage is situated next door to the owners house. The cottage has a small expanse of grass and table and chairs plus parking space in front of it. Beyond that is a large piece of grass where we were able to play with our dog.Our dog also played with their dog which was rather nice. Just be aware the gate to the properties is normally open for access so you need to supervise your dog. Very little traffic uses the lane but the odd vehicle does pass at speed. No major complaints or problems during our stay. We slept well and enjoyed the peace and quiet. The cottage is tucked away down a single track lane. The cottage was initially hard to find as a road sign was broken. Even the Asda delivery struggled to find us. Not the owners fault I might add.The only other thing that could have improved our stay related the velux window in the double bedroom - it only opened a few centimetres but closed again quickly and as it was really warm during our stay my parents found the room quite stuffy. Fortunately the window in the hall opened wide which helped improve things. But despite these minor issues we enjoyed our stay very much."

"Took us 15 minutes to work the key lock in the dark. A lovely property but needs some maintenance and tlc. Kitchen cupboards and drawers filthy, washing machine handle comes off in your hand so unable to use it, one of chair backs at dining table very loose. Very dangerous, particularly if an elderly person sat on it. Dishwasher needed salting but we didn't expect to have to bring our own salt! Hundreds of cups and plates etc which takes up so much space that no room for our own food. Freezer desperately needs defrosting. Bathroom needs vent when shower on as mound growing all over. Top of tap in bathroom come off, no bath mat or hand towels. Drawer handles missing, pillows very stained and dirty (they are cheap enough to buy!) cushions in lounge desperately need washing and the settee could do with good clean. These are all minor things and lack of basic maintenance so hopefully the owners will get onto this as it would be a real shame if left unattended and prevents people coming as its a lovely property and perfect location with stunning views when you open curtains in morning"

"It's been a few weeks since we spent our Easter holiday at Deepwell Barn, and I've been meaning to find the time to write a few words about our experience. The cottage was a great base to explore the area. We live in Hull, so Devon and Cornwall are quite a long drive away. We easily visited places of interest local to the cottage and farther afield. For all intents and purposes the cottage is a new build within an existing barn structure, which is great. Everything being like a new home, but with the charm of an old building. That said the barn has been converted to a very high standard, and being from a construction background, I spent a lot of time admiring the quality of the joinery. The cottage had everything we could possibly need, and the welcome pack left by the owners was a very nice touch.Whilst the cottage is in a very rural landscape, within ten minutes you're in the centre of Bideford with all the shops and facilities you could possibly need. All in all we had a great time, and we would highly recommend a holiday there."

"This was a lovely property, perfect for an out of season escape. Right on the Tarka trail you had unlimited walking and cycling right on your doorstep. It is large and detached and perfect for two people who want peace and quiet, with a bit of home comfort. I appreciated the hairdryer as I forgot my own. It’s a short walk to Bideford along the trail and the beautiful beach at Westward Ho! just 15 minutes drive. My only niggle was that the kitchen equipment was sparse and poor quality as is often the case with rental properties. If you want a fire the night you arrive bring your own kindling as they only provided three chunky logs and a couple of fire lighters which wasn’t enough to get the fire going. Also if you have fire gauntlets I’d bring them as I really missed mine! All in all a super break, with amazing weather in October."

"We booked Stourhead so that all the family could be together to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday weekend. Also, I had booked tickets for Longleat’s Festival of Light so wanted somewhere close. I must admit I did panic when I realised that Stourhead was down quite narrow country lanes and knowing that December can throw almost any weather conditions at us, I wondered whether we would be able to get there, but we all found it and had a great weekend. The pool was the star attraction for four grandchildren plus parents and grandparents. The games room was also great for table tennis championships! The accommodation was like a tardis with plenty of room for everyone. And it was lovely having the heating on before we arrived so that the house was warm and cosy. Would thoroughly recommend Stourhead. Thankyou."
