We took the apartment as an alternative because Sykes cancelled our original booking in Porthmadog the day before we were to take possession of it for a week.
You provided three alternatives, none of which were in Porthmadog. This particular apartment was some 30 minutes drive away. There was a beach in LLanbedrog 12 minutes walk away and 45 minute uphill walk back! Quite a trek carrying beach equipment! Lovely on the one sunny day we had though. I donât like to have to drive when on holiday but was forced to as we wanted to visit Portmeirion a short walk from Porthmadog. The property itself was an attic conversation. It was very nicely done with plenty of room and comfortable beds. The TV was much too complicated! All we wanted to do was turn it on without fiddling with several remotes. Three flights of stairs kept us fit I suppose! We didnât use the en-suite, or at least only in an emergency, as the macerator toilet was scary! The main bathroom had a dream of a drench shower, however and a beautifully deep bath. We needed a step ladder to operate the windows and happily found one in a cupboard. On arrival storm Betty was raging and the roof windows had been left open, so we had a bit of a flood to clean up and seating to dry with a couple of hair dryers. Also the kitchen tap leaks unless it is turned to cold when shut off - another flood to clean up! Walking was nice to Abersoch and to Pwllheli but taxis back were very expensive, £15 for 4 miles, and hard to come by. We tended to travel to Pwllheli where we could get a train to travel to Barmouth and beyond, so all was not lost.

We had an excellent stay at Hen Blas.
Alan was really welcoming and helpful. He has done a great job in converting the flat, and it has a great feel to it. We loved the open plan, and it was very well equipped with wood burner, dishwasher/washing machine/drier and modern kitchen/fridge freezer and Wifi. Great position in the centre of Aberdaron. Warm and cosy with excellent central heating for a cold week. We wanted to mention a few things which we feel would help to improve it. Alan is aware we had a bit of an issue with the drainage from the shower, which happened throughout the week. It might need looking at. The toilet seat was loose, as were the kitchen taps. Just a few additions to kitchen equipment would make it even more home from home. A few basics were missing, such as- a large frying pan, cereal bowls, large mixing bowls, lemon squeezer, oven gloves, baking trays, hand blender and electric whisk. The roasting tin was rusty and old. We would have also liked to have more comfortable seating in the lounge area e.g.Two 2-seater soft fabric sofas, rather than the narrow leather chairs/sofa, as we didn't feel we could properly relax by the fire. Overall though the experience of staying there was very good, and we think these things would be simple to add. We come to Aberdaron every Easter, and would definitely want to stay there again with these few additions.

This accommodation is not for anyone who enjoys comfort.
Positives are that It is an open plan two bed with plenty of room and does allow pets. It is in the middle of the village so a great spot for the beach , shop and cafes. The ship and Ty neudd are right next door and Alun the host is a lovely man and can be got hold of easily as he is in the ship hotel (owns both properties). The Negatives are that the DVD was broken which on a rainy day (Aberdaron weather can fluctuate) is needed. Kitchen equipment is not great and the apartment required some maintenance. No information available on where to put rubbish etc, cleanliness could be better and there are two flights of concrete steps up to the property and no where to park outside which is not great when unloading the car (You do get a permit for the National Trust car park a short distance away). There is some noise early morning with deliveries and bins and weekends until late evening due to due to drinking in the ship next door. That said Aberdaron is a lovely spot and we have returned there for holiday for the past 5 years. Dogs are allowed on a section of the beach, the landscape is spectacular and Fishermanâs Cove and the Lookout are worth a visit. Truly a lovely spot for relaxation.

The area & location are fantastic 10/10 but unfortunately there are some maintenance works needed to bring the place upto an acceptable standard.
Loose fitted taps made it difficult to use them, washing machine leaks massively on use & floods the apartment, paint peeling of walls due to damp in bedroom & bathroom, shower tray holds water & needed plunger on each use, outside lighting not working & is almost impossible to see when leaving & entering the place causing me to trip on the 2 steps next to the entrance door resulting in a sprained ankle, someone else living in an adjoining room only separated by a locked door with no keyhole cover & is able to see into our apartment during our stay, ironing board supplied but not usable, living area windows locked & unable to open them. We did mention to the owner at the ship hotel but he was unable to sort anything due to it being easyer bank holiday weekend & was also offered an extra nights stay & free meal on the day we we're due to leave but we'd already packed & loaded the car & to be honest wouldn't have stayed anyway with the things listed above. This place could be a fantastic place with some easy maintenance done but it did ruin it for us when we stayed.

Although we enjoyed our holiday in the apartment we were disappointed with certain aspects of the cleaning.
The fridge and microwave hadnât been wiped out and cleaned properly. There was quite a lot of food presumably left by previous occupants in the cupboards which we had to move, throw some out as they were well out of date and clean the shelves ourselves so that we could make use of them. In our view the bathroom had had a superficial clean, the toothbrush holder was a disgrace and we didnât use it. The plug in the basin was also pretty horrid! The shower itself needed a âdeepâ clean!!! We were a little taken aback to find these âproblemsâ with the cleaning as the previous reviews for the property had made mention of the cleanliness and we would have thought that with the present Covid 19 pandemic where the emphasis is on cleanliness amongst other things we were not anticipating any problems in this direction. We have stayed in a number of Sykes properties throughout the UK and have never found it necessary to make any derogatory comments before! Itâs up to your company whether you publish our feedback.
