Staying in Gloucestershire

And each part manages to retain an individual romance, along with a heap of sights and activities to explore. If you love nature, Gloucestershire is your haven with pretty streams and flower-filled valleys never too far away. If you’re a fan of all things witchcraft and wizardry, it’s also home to Gloucester Cathedral where parts of Harry Potter were filmed.

"This stable conversion is in a lovely location in the middle of the Cotswolds countryside. Even though the main road is near you can't really hear any traffic noises, so it is very peaceful. I don't know if the other attached lets had guests but we weren't really disturbed if they did. The nearest town is Winchcomb, a five minute drive away. There was milk, tea, sugar & biscuits waiting for us, which was a nice touch and appreciated. The kitchen was well equipped, although I never cooked during our stay. It would have been nice to have had an all purpose cleaner spray to hand, which I could have used on the sink and in the bathroom, but that's a minor thing. The owner also popped across to say hello, and recommend a place to eat. She was very friendly. We visited some nice places inc Sudeley Castle, the local steam railway, and drove down to Weston Super Mare when the sun finally came out. However, the accommodation does seem a bit dated, and is set out in a way that we felt, didn't make the best use of the space. The poor wooden worktops in the kitchen desperately need sanding down and re-oiling. As other guests have said, the sette/bed in the living room is the most uncomfortable I've ever sat on, & should really be replaced. The guttering above the bedroom windows needs fixing, as the torrential rain we had one day was running down the windows and it's obviously this that has rotted the bottoms of both bedroom windows, which need sorting as it looks very unkempt and neglected. The whole patio could have done with a good sweep, and the round patio table & chairs needed a sand down and re-stain/varnish. I know these are only minor things,( & time consuming), but it would look so much better for it! In conclusion, it's a nice enough place for a short stay, but i'm glad we weren't there for a whole week. I think that with a bit of money spent, some imagination & TLC, the owners could make so much more of S16102."

"The cottage is more of a chalet. And I would'nt think it is for 4, depends on what you like and I would agree that the sofa needs new seating cushions. The cottage is everything you need for a holiday and if you like walking. The kitchen is small but o.k. If you need another work top you can jam the metal hot stand across the sink with the chopping board on it. There are lots of info in the cottage about the area and loads of walks they have printed off for you. There is a farm called Hayles fruit farm where you can pick your own apples and pears off the trees and pay for them in the shop and the Orchard café is fab. If you like walking I'm not too sure if there is a path to it. You can go by road but I suggest you drive slow. The Pheasant pub also does fab meals. You can go into Winchcombe town center (also fab) on foot and to supermarket. Walk down the lane where the pottery is (opposite the cottage lane) and walk behind the bushes (for safety) then turn left at the three ways house then straight down all the way. If your there on a Sunday you should try Rosie's for lunch, wow."

"Enjoyed our stay and cottage is clean and comfortable. Kitchen generally well equipped but needs more mugs and glassware (tumblers). Cupboard for mugs and glasses is high to reach (especially for items at back) unless you are tall. Living space small and very limited kitchen working space, downstairs space only 50% of upstairs and bedrooms are therefore much more spacious. Apps provision on living room TV needs checking as does not match details in property. Wi-fi access good but details specify upper case for letters in password whereas it should be lower case (took a while to figure this out). Details specify two parking spaces on road opposite property but it should make clear that these are not reserved spaces and therefore not always available. Personal taste but the bath in the main bedroom seems a waste of space and a proper wardrobe (rather than rail) would be a better use of space. Outside seating area is extremely small and close to bins and oil tank. Although details mention it being small, it is nevertheless a bit disappointing."

"Very much typical of this price range in our experience. Pros and Cons:Mattress long overdue for replacement - could not get a good night's sleep.Settee uncomfortable to sit on - did not use as a bed.Would feel very crowded for 4 adults - especially if any were of a large build. Not a place to stay in during the break - use as a base for touring. Not impressed by old leaflets (e.g. 2013) and sticky leaflets (obviously used as placemats for cups) which should have been cleaned out. We replaced before finding that there is a rack in the main building.Figures worn off the cooker - so cooking was an experiment.Still promoting a local pub - which closed ages ago - none in walking distanceTV was a decent size and with a DVD player (DVDS in cottage and, of course, purchasable from charity shops if not taking any).Welcome Pack appreciated.Kitchen stocked with cleaners. Not returning as choose different locations each time. If coming back, would probably choose Stowe as a base."

"We had a fantastic stay at S45973 , Gill and Jon were very welcoming and friendly , and knew all the places that were worth a visit , The cottage was beautiful, very well kept with everything we needed for our stay, it was very clean and on arrival it was lovely to see that Gill and Jon had left tea bags ,sugar and milk in the kitchen so we could have a much needed cup of tea!! we had a garden which was perfect as we had taken a puppy with us.The location was just right for us as we were visiting family in coleford so it was just a 5 minute drive away, We will definitely be booking S45973 again everytime we visit family in coleford . Very welcoming , beautiful place to stay 10/10"
