Staying in Gloucestershire

And each part manages to retain an individual romance, along with a heap of sights and activities to explore. If you love nature, Gloucestershire is your haven with pretty streams and flower-filled valleys never too far away. If you’re a fan of all things witchcraft and wizardry, it’s also home to Gloucester Cathedral where parts of Harry Potter were filmed.

"A group of 6 of us went to S16330 for a long weekend. The cottage is lovely, it has a very homely feel, and breath taking views from the rear of the property. The downstairs layout is great, we loved that it was largely open plan which we found very sociable. The kitchen is well equipped and we were left dishwasher tablets, kitchen roll, new washing up sponge and washing up liquid too which was helpful. The upstairs shower is a little low so tall people may struggle to use it but this did not bother us as the en suite shower is very good and we mostly used this. The bedrooms are comfortable although the twin room is quite snug! There are few facilities in the village but there are two pubs that you can walk to from the cottage (we ate at the black horse one night, the menu is not extensive but the food was nice) and we were told that there was a local shop in the village, open in the mornings. Local facilities are however close by in places like Stroud. The walking from the property is great. We walked to Stroud for the farmers market (which was very good). A cab ride back from Stroud cost us £10 per car. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay, would definitely recommend and would happily return."

"I admit we booked it in a hurry and didn't read previous reviews. If we had we wouldn't have booked it. There's no shower, no WIFI, and, although the cottage was originally no doubt lovely (15 or 20 yrs ago) it is now tired and dated. The bathroom in particular is damp with peeling wallpaper and mould. The towels provided smelt musty and wouldn't dry in there! The owners are an elderly couple who, we suspect, haven't actually been in it for ages and aren't supervising the contract cleaners because it was barely clean, They're are clearly 'doing the middles but not the edges'. The kitchen cupboards and drawer were full of crumbs and the kitchen rug was filthy. Some of the crockery was chipped or cracked and though there were lots of cooking pans many were way past it. Although a few basic foodstuffs such as tea, coffee, cooking oil, salt and pepper were provided some were past their expiry date, the oldest being the pepper, 2007. As an indication of it being unloved or cared for, whilst there were a few current local attraction leaflets the oldest one we found in the pile was 2002 !! It needs a thorough refurbishment and deep clean."

"Beautiful cottage throughout with fantastic views over the valley below. The kitchen is well equipped and allowed us to cook as we would at home most evenings, although there are nice places to eat locally (the Old Fleece). Access roads to the cottage are single track and the position of a steep bank opposite the very short parking space made parking awkward. We were in two cars, a Mercedes e-class and a VW golf estate and parking involved a fair bit of manoeuvring and both caers hung out into the road by about a foot, even though they were within an inch of touching the garage wall. If we'd gone in the Vw Up, this wouldn't have been a problem! Sitting out in the garden in the evening watching the sunset was worth the price on its own. We had a great week and would go back. The neighbours we're lovely as well, giving us advice on where to visit and where to avoid."

"if I said this rather surreal experience were to be classified as the most inconvenient, it would be the understatement of the century. people running the business had arranged for their annual gas inspection to take place during our stay that was deliberately kept away from us and not communicated at or before the time of booking. this resulted in complete strangers invading our precious privacy for a day with no compensation from them. we were astonished by the sheer level of audacity.to top this up, the place was infested by an invasion of man eating ants and wasps that upon our complaint, the owner replied by saying that they had the same problem, great! made us feel much better!I would highly recommend this place for a great stay , if you are utterly bored with your daily life and seeking to have a adrenaline fueled , horror type of break!"

"S16083 is a little gem in the beautiful Cotswolds. It's a very cosy place with a wonderful "home from home" feeling and lovely interior decoration. Being placed at a little river, it is very relaxing to sit on the outside terrace and listen to the soothing noise of the flowing water and all the sounds of nature around you. There are several hiking trails near the cottage, so you can just put on your walking shoes and start discovering the beautiful countryside. The charming small Cotswolds town of Bourton-on-the-water is also in walking distance. S16083 gives you every opportunity to have a really relaxing holiday and is also a good starting point for exloring the many places of interest in the northern Cotswolds or for a trip to Oxford or Cheltenham."
