Staying in Gloucestershire

And each part manages to retain an individual romance, along with a heap of sights and activities to explore. If you love nature, Gloucestershire is your haven with pretty streams and flower-filled valleys never too far away. If you’re a fan of all things witchcraft and wizardry, it’s also home to Gloucester Cathedral where parts of Harry Potter were filmed.

"Just come back from a very relaxing and enjoyable week staying at The S16129, Winchcombe in the Cotswolds. We stayed from the 8th to 15th August 2015. Spacious yet comfortable Kingfisher is well stocked with all the amenities you could hope for. The whole property is maintained to a high standard and the kitchen has all the utensils you would require. We particularly liked how the owners (who live next door|) left some tea, coffee, milk and biscuits provided for our arrival. A very nice touch and much appreciated. The garden is more than adequate and has plenty of chairs, recliners and benches to accommodate comfortably all ten people in our party. The weather was favourable (for the most part) during our stay and I managed to do two barbeques. I was most impressed with the BBQ and the again nice touch having proper utensils together with Charcoal, lighting fluid and fire lighters in supply. Beautiful little brook running at the bottom of the garden, very calming watching the fish and wildlife in the vicinity. Kingfisher has a marvellous path at the rear of the property which runs adjacent to The Brook and into Winchcombe itself. Took a couple of strolls along this path, most enjoyable viewing the countryside as well as other more wildlife and other properties in the area. Winchcombe itself is a delight to the eye with many curiosity shops, emporiums and of course lots of very nice public houses. Winchcombe is a brilliant location for a Cotswolds holiday. It’s big enough to have all the shops , pubs, food outlets and restaurants you need without feeling too big and overpowering. If you want a village setting without feeling isolated then this is the place for you.Kingfisher has an enormous conservatory which doubles as a large dinning area. We loved eating in here and it being able to have a good view of the garden and the countryside. The conservatory also has a full sized pool table which we made full use of. All ages and skill levels took part in our family tournaments, providing us with lots of entertainment. On the subject of entertainment there is plenty for you to do inside, with all manor of board games, books, leaflets and cards to keep you amused and interested. The Kingfisher living room is very homely, comfortable and inviting. First property I’ve stayed in that has Sky TV provided. The men in our party enjoyed the opening week of the football season enormously as a result. Not so sure the women did though! Living room has large wall mounted TV with a DVD player. Nicely furnished with nice night lighting. We all has a wonderful week in the S16129, everyone unanimously gave this property a thumbs up. Even my hard to please 17 year old daughter said she could quite happily stay here again. If you are thinking of staying here I can enthusiastically and genuinely recommend this property to stay in."

"Long weekend in February for 4 'mature' couples. Location perfect, easy walk into Winchcombe village with an abundance of independent, clothes, greengrocers and decent pubs with good food. The house is roomy with 5 good bedrooms of which 4 are ensuite. The twin room is downstairs with a wet room across hall. The cottage is very well equiped with a 10 seater table in the sunny conservatory. This looks out onto a narrow part of the river and field and footpath which takes you up to Sudleigh Castle but not open till March as is the cafe up there. This was a lovely walk which can be a good 5 mile circular or a short 2 mile circular taking you into the village. We did the 5 miler as the day was perfect, bit muddy underfoot but fantastic views. There are plenty of walks from the cottage. After an enjoyable few beers in the local then watching England win their 6 nations game we enjoyed a hearty meal from the slow cooker. An enjoyable pool tournament then took place. It also has a good garden with outside eating which would be lovely on warmer days. Thoroughly recommend Kingfisher."

"The cottage was described as having a small courtyard, this was only a narrow pedestrian footpath to the front door at the rear of the building, where the rubbish bins were in abundance! Sadly the cottage was right next to a car show room forecourt so was pretty hemmed in . The bed linen was clean but not ironed and I had to look twice to convince myself it was clean as creased. The shower cubicle grout was discoloured due to mould and paint peeling off the ceiling above, however the water was hot and powerful. The cottage was historically very interesting and had been well repaired and generally the decor was good.Being on a busy main road we found it necessary to draw the curtains most of the time. The curtains could have done with washing and replacing curtain hooks so that they looked tidy. We raised the matter of not being able to turn on the kitchen spotlights , ? whether the light bulbs broken or a switch we didn't find, no one was able to come and sort this out during our stay .what a shame the wood burner was not connected !!"

"Excellent space and light, airy atmosphere. Useful conservatory, as we and space there for quiet pastimes (reading, cards) whilst the television was watched by others. The gardens, had the weather been better, provided lots of seating, tables and, for families, room for playing. Views from the property were outstanding. As Ramblers, we found the paths, starting by the house, excellent and well-signed. The surrounding villages and attractions are many and roads in the area quiet. Winchcombe is an ideal location, the shops, pubs, cafes all being within walking distance. The owners were discreet and friendly. Minor quibbles:- more hooks in bathrooms, better instructions about the equipment and the recycling bins... which were for what. But minor grumbles. We would hire this property again. March 2010."

"We had a wonderful stay at S16129. The location was perfect for all our day trips out, and also for access to the local village facilities, including the pubs, shops and restaurants. The cottage itself had everything you could possibly need and more. The facilities were amazing. Having the large conservatory was brilliant for our meals, pool games and card games. The kitchen had every utensil, pot and pans you could need. All the bedrooms and bathrooms were very comfortable. The communal areas including the lounge, kitchen, conservatory and garden were all perfect. Thank you also for the lovely biscuits, it was such a nice touch.Thank you for our wonderful holiday, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay, and would love to return in the future."
