Staying in Gloucestershire

And each part manages to retain an individual romance, along with a heap of sights and activities to explore. If you love nature, Gloucestershire is your haven with pretty streams and flower-filled valleys never too far away. If you’re a fan of all things witchcraft and wizardry, it’s also home to Gloucester Cathedral where parts of Harry Potter were filmed.

"Val and John were very welcoming hosts at the annexe, happily waiting up for us as we were delayed on the journey there. They gave very informative information on the area and recommended places to eat, visit etc. The area is beautiful and the location not too long a drive from tourist attractions like Cotswold Wildlife Park with villages like Bourton on the Water (one or two tea shops there) and the picturesque Bibury. With lots of walks in the area and books available to peruse in the property.Unfortunatly, for us, the accommodation was too small with the bedroom only just fitting in a double bed and very small kitchen. The décor is very twee and the shower incredibly small, my partner barely fitted in. The biggest issue for us was the cold as the heating is turned off at night and it was a very cold few days. There was no welcome pack in the annexe so on our first morning the first job was to get to the shop, only some 10 min walk, to get basics like milk/sugar/tea. We have stayed in a few 'cottages4you' and have always had these, and more, supplied in the properties.Overall the area is absolutely stunning and there is an awful lot to do and see. For us, the property didn't really suit."

"We had a great week here. The location is a great base for exploring. Very rural and quiet but super close to Chepstow and the Forest of Dean. Emma, the owner, is super friendly and helpful. Loved meeting the farm animals they have. The annexe had everything we needed. Emma left loads of local information for us had even left out a few toys and books for our 7 month old. There's a few nice walks right on the doorstep, good for walking the dog before heading out for the day. The annexe keeps plenty warm and the shower is great. Only a few small negatives: my husband is 6'4" and the doorway between the kitchen and living room was far too short so he kept hitting his head. Same for the lighting fixture in the bedroom. Secondly, the bed was very uncomfortable; I think it was two single beds pushed together and we just found it way too small. Plus there is railing at the end of the bed so my husband was unable to stretch out. Lastly, we could only pick up the wifi in the living room. Other than those few small niggles everything was great!"

"Warm and cosy. Delightful Owners. Plenty of local information was available. However, the accommodation was disappointing - the bedroom was much too small for the size of bed and the shower/toilet cubicle was cramped. Armchair and settee were very low - two chairs would have given more room. The wardrobe was behind the settee! Another large cupboard in the lounge had hanging space but the floor was stacked up with the Owners' possessions. The kitchen area very cramped (one person at a time). Cooking had to be done on a counter top oven with hot plates on the top (much too high for safety) or in a small microwave. There was no storage space available. Cereals and other containers remained on the dining table throughout the week! No DVD player. "

"A lovely cottage in an equally lovely location: walking around the nearby lake was a real treat and the eating places in the village (the Italian restaurant and the pub) were of a high standard, serving quality food with excellent service. Fairford is handy for Kelmscott Manor, which we visited one afternoon and where we enjoyed a traditional high tea in the sunshine, and the whole surrounding area was delightful. Linda, the landlady, was very friendly and helpful, and we wouldn't hesitate to repeat the whole experience. Our only (slight) criticism is that the cottage is very small: we didn't find that a problem but families might; we thought it added to the cosiness. Generally, a big 'yes' and a definite recommendation!"

"We stayed at Cotswold View for a weekend. The accommodation is a few rooms above the owner's garage, but is ideally located for Stratford upon Avon, Cheltenham & Gloucester and the main Cotswold villages. The photos have been very well taken as the kitchen and bathroom (that aren't pictured) are small and could maybe do with some modernisation. The heating system is electric wall heaters but the owners have also supplied separate fan heaters for an extra boost of heat if needed. The 2 z-beds for children are a little fragile according to the owner and have to be put downstairs in the lobby at the back of the owners garage (again not pictured). The property is easy enough to find on the outskirts of Willersey village."
