"Firstly we enjoyed the area: the countryside is lovely, particularly if you like walking; local people friendly and helpful everywhere we went. That said, we come to the FLAT, not a cottage, unlike the misleading photographs which actually shows the part of the building which does not belong to the owners. The owner does not want to hear about discrepancies between the information given and the actual FLAT, which my partner tried to do from the outset. I, myself could not see the point of pointing out all the obvious discrepancies from the information given, because I would have lost my temper and ruined the holiday. We were aware that this was cheaper than other Cottages, but it is not worth what we paid - even though we spent as little time there as possible, we would have liked to have been able to chill-out after a days walking, the flat is too awful to do this and the garden does not have a view. After the first sight of the flat left us deflated, finding faeces on the toilet roll left my partner nauseated. The furniture looks like it came from a jumble sale or left overs from a run down OAP home. The cooker is simply inadequate, the TV is a joke as it is too small to watch - I watched a bit of the England game on my iPad it was so bad - again we spent little time in the FLAT.The cutlery, glasses and and crockery seemed to have been bought from the aforementioned jumble sale. There wasn’t even a bread knife. The fridge was so old it would have fitted a 1970s FLAT, rather than 2018.My partner kept pointing out how dirty it was with cobwebs all over the place, her face becoming more and more unhappy during the stay there and staying out later and later, which curtailed my downtime to have a drink. Also, trivial things like supplying bin bags and a good booklet about information on the area and things to do.Overall, we loved Dumfries and Galloway, but wished we had paid a bit more attention and read the previous reviews a bit more before we plumbed for this inadequate and misleading FLAT."

"I contacted the owner as soon as we arrived at this property because of the state it was in. She sent the cleaner down and I contacted the twice after the reclean had taken place because of the state of the property. I also raised an issue with the booking company whilst we were away. The family in the next door cottage - owned by the same person - was also filthy with dirty bed sheets etc. Both complaints are not being treated seriously, by the company or the owner. So, here's the list of things which were wrong for you to make your own mind up if you want to risk visiting this property. There are other lovely properties in the area to rent.Property not clean- bathroom bin not emptied of dirty sanitary towels - tables with food and grease on them- bathroom shelving dirty and stained- sink dirty- showerhead mouldy- toilet flush only operates on one flush button not both- extractor fan noisy, not working properly and full of fluff- bathroom mirror badly corroded- bedding not changed (stained in three places) but clearly sprayed with something like Fabreeze- bedside cabinet drawers not been cleaned out - hair and fluff inside- fridge not clean. It had a bottle of milk in when we arrived. That had gone after the cleaner had been on her return visit. We don't know whether the milk was out of date or it had been taken out of spite.- extractor fan over cooker falling apart - literally- plates chipped- rugs stained- stairs dirty full of fluff and hair- television and DVD not working - this was reported as faulty in the first book 15 months ago!!- lights not working in every room apart from the bathroomThis was an expensive property, but as it's for sale I think the owners have lost interest. When I spoke to the owner, she was trying to gain sympathy by saying they lived seven hours away and couldn't visit easily. So, because of that, I had to stay in filth??? Ended the holiday early because it was so bad."

"A cosy Scottish worker's cottage set in the heart of this lovely village with a friendly shop near and even a doctor in the village. Spacious downstairs (low ceilings upstairs) Beds need new mattresses as very soft and didn't like the instruction to strip them, ready for collection. We always do but it is a holiday! Bedding needs to be updated - a little tired now. The old chest of drawers in the main bedroom needs to be upcycled or got rid of. It lets it down.Very good range of equipment but my husband repaired the toilet cistern as it didn't flush properly. Also, he mended the TV cable as someone had messed this up! I cleaned out powder and gunge from the washing machine - then, this all worked well! The banister has a huge gap in it - no problem for adults but an accident waiting to happen for a child. The garden would be a delight but it needs doing! The furniture was comfortable and such a wonderful range of pots, pans, beautiful mugs and the pictures around/ornaments reflected the essence of that part of Scotland. Really delightful.Would stay there again and it could be a brilliant cottage gaining full marks so easily.Owner very helpful over key code as it wasn't his fault that we didn't receive it."

"The location is wonderful and the village restful and very attractive (the in-bloom competition was underway when we visited and the displays were lovely.) PO still there but no hotel now and the church is closed. The flat was OK: the shower's great and the beds very comfy. We thought there could have been more consideration of comfort in the living room: the TV is too small to watch in that sized room and from the chairs (and people do go out to explore but sometimes want to watch a little before bedtime) , A proper oven would be good; we managed meals on the little one-pasta bake and fajitas- but it wasn't easy and the aluminium trolley isn't a good look! A sofa would be nice too.My daughter (early 20s) wasn't able to connect with social media/Youtube etc because of parental blocks. She didn't like that and although many might be glad of a break from all that sort of thing, the younger contingent aren't! Host was polite and welcoming; we appreciated some milk and biscuits and a nice bunch of flowers left for us."

"We arrived for a 3 day break and was initially very impressed with the cottage. There was 6 of us. Kitchen facilities were great. Access to property was good, but because it rained quite heavily, the bottom part of the garden flooded which caused us a few issues with the cars getting stuck. Be aware that there is only one bathroom which has the single toilet, bath and shower so it can be a little inconvenient in the morning. A place of this size should have at least 2 separate toilet/bath/shower rooms. This was our only gripe. The location is great and quite isolated, which is what we wanted. There is no mobile coverage and although there is WiFi, its pretty slow and with more than 2 people on the WiFi, makes it pretty unusable - However it was great to have a digital detox for a few days."
