"Arrived a little early so called owner to see if we could wait outside as no where open for a drink nearby. Said she would speak to husband on site but not to forget the £50 deposit!! Great start. We waited outside and were surprised to see it was pretty dull looking. Not bright like the online images. No garden or river nearby that we could see just a patio. We were allowed to check in early about 3.30pm. Inside was small open plan but looked nice and clean. Shown around and how.to use hot tub etc and deposit (no idea what this was for) was handed over.Well equipped kitchen and all ensuite rooms. But if it sleeps 6 why is there only 4 chairs in the lounge area which was tiny! We were.left milk and.fresh eggs which was a nice.touch...along with a manual telling us what the owners expected us to do on leaving.Nice central location for getting about. Nice Chinese in Abergele called wongs and a good takeaway too.Had a great week out and about. Especially recommend the Locked in Escape rooms in Abergele for a great evening.Hot tub was nice although I don't think it was working as it should be. Needed to be screened off was open to camp site and people going to farm no privacySadly we had a few niggles which could easily be sorted.Cat.....if you like to sleep.with windows open at night be prepared for the cat to come in a some early hour..both downstairs and upstairs on numerous occasions meaning being woken up by girls to get the cat out...okay if you like cats but if you scare.easily beware of this one.Wet room....cannot shower for.more than a minute as due to poor drainage and not enough slope water goes under door and floods bedroom...not good when your shoes are there.Cooker...no instructions on how to use oven as faded on dials.Windows no nets so had to keep curtains closed as.people.coming and going at farmhouse all the time...so not very private.Fridge....very noisy all the time new one needed.Tv nope useless and if you don't have a Now tv subscription you will need to get one or you're watching nothing. Broadband was okayish. No mobile signal at all.Cleaning...having read the folder on how to leave the property...can honestly say we have stopped in many cottages and have never been told we have to strip the beds...what are we actually paying for? Probably left it cleaner than when we arrived certainly cleaned up a lot of dead flies and spiders from behind beds.No sockets near any mirrors ladies.Found folder notes from owners quite short and.sharp came.across as unfriendly on paper.....quite nice in personCould not leave until property inspected....and then got deposit back.Although it's a great.location it needs some.tlcNot like the images as obvious paint and varnish has faded since taken. Oh and no bbq as shown in images on website.Would not go there again felt it overpriced for.what it is despite the location."

"S22358 is a lovely period stone cottage, with one double bedroom upstairs and two singles downstairs along with the living room, bathroom and kitchen. Set in a secluded location yet only a minute from the A5 trunk road; walk the other way down the lane and you are likely only going to meet sheep and wildlife. There are quite a few pubs and eateries in the area worth visiting (we particularly liked the Y Giler Arms at Rhydylanfair), and the kitchen is well equipped for eating in too. The 30 steps up to the property and the stream were no issues for us but could be an issue for small children or people with mobility issues; however this was well advertised in advance. Loved the newly installed renewable heating, and the recent bathroom. The lean too back room is a handy space - although it could do with some hooks for wet weather gear to dry off - this is Snowdonia so its going to be wet a lot of the time! The pool table in the back room is a bit of fun, haven't played for years and rediscovered why! Was surprised that there was a only a limited range of local information left in the property, usually along with the the house details (which were out of date - no mention of the new heating system for example), there is usually a recommendation or two from the owners for local walks and the best places to eat out. Given there is no mobile signal at the property, and the issue with wifi (see below) some further info could have come in handy. The only issue we had was with the wifi - the limit to 3GB per week and inability to stream things like music, sync photos to the cloud and download documents (timetables, route maps and pub menus are quite often in pdf format) caused us an issue. I would have wanted to know that it was limited before hand, so this knocks a point off the overall score, which would otherwise have been 9/10."

"Maybe we should have looked into the property further but we just didn’t anticipate how far from the main road it was. It became a family joke that it would take 15-20 mins to get back to “civilisation” when we went out, and it was such a drudge when coming back after a day out exploring - there was certainly no popping back out after tea or taking a stroll down to the local! Not having TV or internet didn’t bother us but the feeling of isolation did. Also it’s very important to note that it doesn’t suit a family of four at all (as per the description) unless the two children are under 12 years old. My 15 year old had to sleep downstairs as one of the beds are only accessible to those who are small/short. The double bed has no support to the mattress whatsoever which didn’t suit my husband with spinal issues. In the end we managed to check in for two nights somewhere else and cut our holiday short, so we stayed 4 out of 7 nights at the cottage - we just couldn’t tolerate the isolation any longer. We left a bag of kindling and a bag and half of firewood we had purchased for the next lodgers to enjoy - but be mindful of the fumes which gave us all headache unless we kept the door open! (CO2 detectors are in situ). Not for us. We won’t be returning to Cwm Penmachno!"

"We spent a fab week at this lovely, quirky cottage. The location is great for hill walking, with amazing trails (ie. Snowdonia slate trail) literally on the doorstep. Beautiful place both in the sunshine and under the snow. The cottage was homely, and pet-friendly which was a plus. The logburner will keep you cosy on cold evenings - make sure you have enough wood for the first night though... bring extra clothes in winter, and prepare for (lots of) rain anytime. Don't expect city luxury, shops, tv, phone signal or internet. The equipment is basic, but sufficient. The owner was amazing and handled my silly requests most kindly and efficiently ! Cycling sadly wasn't possible due to the weather, otherwise it should be a great activity in the area. The cottage really is recommended for walkers and nature loving folks, or those who want a break far away from the crowds, in simplicity. We would absolutely love to come back again."

"Wonderful location, spectacular views and ideal central base for exploring lots of fantastic parts of Wales. Only minor disappointment - and it is very minor - is that we thought the freezer would be in the cottage block and easily accessible, whereas it is in the adjoining barn. We did not use it, and managed easily with the fridge and its freezer compartment, so it was just a minor misunderstanding on our part, but otherwise everything we could think of was provided. Really comfortable, warm beds, a lovely welcome tray with tea and coffee, home-made biscuits, flowers from the garden, milk in the fridge. Very nice bathroom and walk-in shower. The information folder with planned routes is brilliant, and we used route 1 daily and part of route 2- very clear instructions. Work commitments meant we had to leave a day early, which was a shame, and we hope to return soon."
