"Myself and 5 friends stayed at S3311 to celebrate our 50th birthdays. On booking we were told check in was 6pm but we asked if it was possible to leave our bags earlier as we wanted to make use of the full day but not have to take our bags with us when walking round Leek (none of us were driving)! We were told that we couldn't leave our bags, which we thought was a bit strange that we couldn't just leave them in a room or barn or anywhere so we were getting prepared to drag our bags round Leek. However, Henry (the owner) did tell us we could check in at 4:30pm instead, which was good of him. When we arrived our minibus driver took us to the barn just to show us where it was before we were being dropped off in the Leek to have a wander round and something to eat. We met up with the owner who was very kind and helpful and said we could in fact leave our bags in the barn. We were so grateful as it would have changed our experience of Leek dragging heavy bags with us so we wanted to say thank you very much for letting us leave our bags but I think it would have saved a lot of worry if we could have agreed that before arrival. S3311 was lovely and the owners were equally lovely, we were made to feel very welcome and given a bottle of wine as we arrived. The hot tub was lovely, I'd never been in one before and loved it. Leek was a really nice place and we walked to Ipstones one day which is a 2 mile walk with a couple of pubs, where we enjoyed a pub lunch. A very good experience and we would definitely go back."

"Whilst a magnificant example of Victorian engineering, this very unique property is in need of some love and attention from its owner. The property is up for sale so perhaps this is the reason why any recent expenditure on it has been kept to a minimum? So much is showing signs of deterioration (broken dishwasher, TV in kitchen, overgrown and unkempt garden containing just two faded, green plastic chairs; washing line broken and unusable) plus the refuse bins had not been collected from the previous occupants and, consequently, ended up overflowing during our stay! The house was not clean; despite this being a common complaint from previous visitors an alleged change of cleaners had done nothing to remove the dog hairs which were everywhere - do not walk around this house with bare feet or just in socks!Three half-used toilet rolls and hand soaps to cover six toilets/bathrooms/en suites! No 'welcome' pack and we even had to buy our own corkscrew which we left at the house for future users. The bedrooms have no curtains so expect to be woken by the very early morning sun.Our post-holiday complaint was referred to the owner but without any admission or recognition that he had failed to deliver what is advertised about this property."

"We were met by the owner who was really nice and friendly. He showed us round the cottage and gave us a free bottle of wine and box of cakes as a welcome gift. The service all in all was very good. The cottage is very old but had been well modernised with all the mod cons you would need for todays living needs. The lounge nice and bright and a really comfy space. Kitchen had plenty of equipment and anything that we needed we could borrow from the farmhouse so no need to want for anything. The Hot tubs are brill and a real luxury item, although it does take a bit of figuring out how to use the jets and turn everything off for the tub to work properly but we managed it ok. The locality is ideal for travelling in four directions through the peaks as situated quite nicely on a crossroads. There is a bus that drops you off at the property if you fancy leaving your car at home. Plenty of places and sights to see. The least thing I liked was going home as it was a really nice place and so quite a culture shock from town life. Will defo come back."

"The property has three bedrooms - however one of the small eaves bedroom can only be stood upright in, right in the very centre of the room, and is only accessible through another bedroom - total lack of privacy, and would really only suit very young children, not an adult couple. The third bedroom, which houses three beds is also an eaves room, and unless the third bed was placed in the centre of the room, it could not be used. Owners house is only a couple of yards from the property, and they are constantly on standby to monitor visitors movements. The optional advance notice hire of a hot tub for £100 per weekend implies that the tub is not a fixture. However it is a permanent fixture in the small courtyard, the only outdoor space, and is constantly plugged in and ready for use. For guests who at some point do choose to use the fixture, and who offer to pay, the request is refused. There is also no bbq available, which was listed. We found the property severely lacking for £671 for three nights, and we also found the owners intimidating."

"The tower is beautiful, comfortable and well furnished. One of the most interesting places I've stayed! The communal areas were clean and comfortable. Excellent kitchen and the top floor games room and snug were great for chatting and catching up. When we arrived, the bedrooms and en suite bathrooms weren't in the best of condition - clearly used sheets on some of the beds, old bars of soap on sinks from previous guests etc. Some of our party stripped the beds and requested new sheets the following morning as the existing ones were stained. The underfloor heating wasn't working in one of the bedrooms, which made it quite uncomfortable. Some people may have found the lack of blinds in the lower floor bedrooms and bathrooms a bit awkward in temrs of privacy too. I think they could improve the performance of their caretaker in these areas. However, communal areas were spotless and cooking/dining facilities were good. Overall, pretty good, and the caretaker did come to sort the issues highlighted so it wasn't a massive issue."
