"On arrival we were surprised that previous reviews had described the cottage as spacious. As a group of 5, we found that the awkward size / shape / layout of the seating area made it difficult to all watch TV together in the evening. Whilst it's nice to have an extra sofa away from the TV for those wanting to read, the seating near the TV only had 2x two-seater sofas and 2x dentist waiting room- The seating area is also the through-route between the kitchen, bathroom, pool room and staircase, so it felt a bit like a corridor at times. I think the cottage would be most suited to a group that wants to spend evening sitting around the large kitchen table, or perhaps two couples who want to go out early hill walking and spend evenings in the pub. Positives: clean; plenty of hot water and the shower was good; corner room bed was comfortable; pool table was great; the north-east facing garden has views over countryside; the wifi was fine; there are a 2/3 really good National Trust properties in the wider area but driving there takes quite a while. There's a steam railway close by. Negatives: the property is right next the A52 so there is 50mph traffic noise from 6am; bathroom radiator is too small for the room which is cold; condensation problems causing puddles in the bathroom and kitchen; bathroom and kitchen floors are freezing, bring your slippers; cooking was challenging at times due to poor quality pans, but the oven was good. Overall, we thought the property was quite expensive for what we got, compared to others we have stayed in, especially as it isn't in the most popular location."

"Unfortunately we had booked this property for two weeks because of the disabled/elderly ground floor facilities only to find they were not fit for purpose. My elderly parents could not go upstairs so were unable to use the shower facility for the whole two weeks and could only use the toilet facility after a plumber had capped off the shower half way through the first week. The owner did not seem to understand the impact this had on us and there was no apology given. The property is fine for people on a weekend let but as there are no change of sheets or towels not really fit for longer...we washed the bedding /towels as we were there unfortunately for two weeks. The two rubbish bins in the kitchen area did not have lids so we had to deal with many flys when we first got there...we managed to make makeshift lids which helped. The bedroom with bath with shower over did not have a shower slip mat to use in the bath so was to be used with care. There are no recycling facilities at this property it all had go into one very large refuse container on wheels which we wheeled out with difficulty for a Wednesday collection not Thursday as stated in house detail. The washing machine drums were well used so had sharpe metal indents which snagged clothes which we found to our cost.. We left the property cleaner than we had found it and have never experienced the response I received from the owner at any other properties I have booked with Cottages.com in the past."

"Got off to a bad start, I booked early to avoid price rises only to have the price reduce by £40 before I paid the final amount 10 weeks out but I was still expected the old amount, I can understand with a few weeks to go but the reduction was 15 weeks in advanced. It was comfy and well equipped, the Sky was a nice touch though it was a shame it was connected to the internet which give a best experience. It was one of the best Studio properties we have stayed at.Real downside was the access to the property, restricted drive, narrow roads and a school meant it was a nightmare trying to get to and from the property we seemed to catch school time every time and the parents didn't seem to have a brain cell between them just blocking the road unnecessarily. It was easier to walk the half mile to the chip shop than get the car out, that how bad it was.The speed cameras that were round every corner got very wearing"

"What an amazing week. We had a fabulous time at S15987. A lovely farm cottage on a working farm. (Despite the dreadful weather, rain or mist most days), we would all choose to stay there again. Great location. Well equipped and maintained. Huge cottage and garden. Beautiful walks on the farm. Terry the owner was very kind and welcoming, he showed us round the farm and we loved seeing how the lambs were growing daily (we stayed in April) 10 min drive to Alton Towers. We also did a day trip to Buxton and Poole Cavern which we all enjoyed. Happiest times were walking on the farm, and in the cottage or garden with our children and the extensive children's toys available within the cottage. The children have all asked if we can return and not visit Alton Towers but spend more time on the farm or in the local area which we were unable to get into much as it was so wet. Thanks so much Terry we hope to stay again."

"Ticked all our boxes. Bedrooms all had nice en suites and beds were very comfortable. Kitchen was well equipped with two fridges and a big range cooker with induction hob. The pans were heavy but there were a good variety of sizes. There was no big teapot but plenty of other crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. One of our fridges wasn't getting cold which was speedily sorted by the staff at The Mill, opposite, who were also very friendly and helpful when we made use of their washing machine. There were only ten of us so we all fitted comfortably round the big dining table in the kitchen, but more would have been a bit of a squeeze. There is no downstairs loo, so guests with rooms on the upper floors often had to be "permitted" to use one of the ground floor en suites. Lots of lovely walks start close by, so no need to drive."
