"Berwyn Barns is I have to say the most beautiful accommodation we have ever stayed in, it is also the best equipped self-catering accommodation that we have stayed in, the owners have thought of all your equipment needs. The hot tub at the rear is great and also private from the next door neighbours. The location is lovely with some great and scenic walking on the door step. The accommodation is on a working farm with over 1000 sheep and 9 collie dogs. A river runs behind the accommodation and has a public foot path close by to follow its course for a time. However the above are the main positive points, we also found (for us, others may not have our negative experience) less happy moments to the stay.We went as a family of five, youngest child 16 years and a eight month old Collie dog. Our family are quite, early to bed and enjoy the outdoor life, long walks with the dog etc. Our dog is very well behaved, no chewing, sitting on furniture etc., and if there are any relapses we do police her. However in the late morning of the second day, the owner turned up at the door. He stated that our dog had been seen on the bed (this could have happened I admit as we were unpacking and distracted, but in all our stay we can say we never saw her try to get on the furniture, this is a strong house rule in our home she has learned well). He then made a strong point that if it happened again we would have to leave. We then got a lecture that we must not go out for the day and leave her in, something we would never have contemplated, but we had to stand and listen for fear or being told to leave then, then with a smile he told us to have a nice stay and went. I must state that he was not at all aggressive, simply firm and polite, but this really put the dampers on our stay. From this point we could not relax for a minute, in case we were told to leave. This went as far as being frightened to have a drink so I could not driveMy wife had just lost her mother the previous month, after being her carer for the last five years, and this being the first holiday in that time, and the holiday was a much moneythat we could now lose.To be fair, a day or two later I bumped into the owner and he was friendly and quite talkative, and did not mention anything, though by then we were so stressed we felt it was not a relaxing time and left on Thursday rather than the Saturday. We also did not have the tumble dryer as it had gone away for repair. We were told it would be back Monday, but buy the late afternoon Thursday it had not arrived. Internet is available as stated, at £4.00 per hour or £6.00 per day, and I think £39.00 per month. There is no phone signal at all, but there is a pay phone in the kitchen. In addition, though the address is Llangollen, it is over a forty mile round trip down very narrow lanes. The nearest shop (A Spar) is a twelve miles round trip. This may be what you want many do, getting away from modern living with lots of fresh air, no mobile phones etc. it is up to you to decide on your wants, but if you have a dog that perhaps is not a saint you may want to consider how much it may cost moneywise if you need to vacate. We are in all honesty not having a go at the owners as many others have had great experiences, and there are positives and the owners are (apart from stated) friendly. All I may suggest that if your dog may make the odd mistake, keep the curtains closed."

"We (my husband and I)have just returned from a week in the Garth y pistyll accommodation. Firstly location if you like to be secluded then this is the place you feel like you have your own farm house with its long track and 2 metal gate which lead to it. The views are absolutely fantastic if you go to the lower garden. Sadly the plum tree obscures the view directly from the house also you have some visitors to the garden ie squirrels. We could see them quite clearly storing their nuts. Something worth looking for near the massive oak tree. Lovely sound of buzzards daily so def take your binoculars. Next walks:-You have a walk directly behind you which is accessed via a small gate its a bit of a ramble but well worth it as the view from the top about 500 mtrs is of all the valley and fells beyond. Other walks are quite near like velvet hill which is directly in front of the cottage. The accommodation was well equipped with the usual amenities including a washer but sadly there was nowhere to hang washing or wet clothes from walks. Bathroom far side of house downstairs very basic we had to use a hose to connect to taps as it requested you too to get the flow of water running as there is a dairy farm quite near and it takes the pressure. Note this is not a problem, on a plus side the bathroom was very warm except when in the bath as it about half the depth of ours and my body wasn't covered. (im not big 5ft 2) Bedrooms were comfortable with great views and again warm. Stairs were a little tricky to negotiate as they are quirky originals this did not suit us as i'm a toilet person during night and they could be quite dangerous getting down although there are only about 8! Entrance area could be quite cold on a night but we just shut kitchen door. Living room was clean with an enormous fire as a centre piece was lovely lit on a night but it does get smokey even with smokeless fuel. windows had to be opened whenever lit. Tv with sky no paid channels was fine. They provided children's books dvds nothing for the adults apart from leaflets which we read first day. Downside low door heights!!!! My husband (6ft, 2banged his head on numerous occasions and we had to tape socks and crisp packets on them to remind him to duck. There should have been signs ABOVE door not on back its easy to forget when you have it open for some air. All in all I would rate this property as a 6."

"This is my 3rd time @ Libby’s Lodge. Fabulous location with plenty of Wildlife, Wonderful walks, close to local amenities, well equipped, spotlessly clean, excellent free WiFi and value for money and very comfortable. Helen the owner gave me a free upgrade to her bigger cottage ( Canalside) opposite Libby’s Lodge again all of the above applied to (Canalside). The hot tub was amazing, as was the conservatory too. Again excellent free WiFi upstairs and downstairs. Thank you Helen, nothing was too much trouble to make our stay as enjoyable as possible, again there was a bottle of wine and milk in the fridge on arrival. I cannot envisage staying anywhere else when visiting Chester, I’m so glad I stumbled across Libby’s Lodge. I will be returning again later this year and for many years to come."

"Nice property in a lovely and convenient location. Unfortunately for my wife and I we have quite bad backs due to arthritis and we found the beds very uncomfortable. The couches also seemed nearly at the end of their life. Theres also only one TV in the property so u all need to be happy watching. The same thing. On the PLUS SIDE the kids loved playing in the large lounge, and when the weather was nice the large driveway was secure from traffic and the children loved running and playing outside as well. The property is baby friendly and even has some toys in it. The baby gates were in good repair and secure. On the whole its a nice place, unfortunately for us I don't think our backs could cope with the beds again but if your in perfect health it might not be a problem."

"The owners live next door, and are perfect hosts. They ensured we had all that we needed and we knew that we could call on them in the event of any difficulty. We were assured by their proximity but were undisturbed. The barn was beautifully furnished, warm and peaceful. It was as described and we were not disappointed! The barn had every home comfort and we appreciated the quiet location. The games room adjoining the barn was a bonus and equipped for all ages. We did not have any children but the adults had great fun playing air hockey and pool! Highly recommended and we certainly hope to return!"
