What our customers say about their holidays

    • Alison - Verified booking

Our much looked forward Christmas break at this cottage was disappointing to say the least.

First impressions were good, nice views and cosy log burner. However, there were two main and significant problems. The TV didn't work properly so we were unable to watch any of the planned tv programmes we had been looking forward to. The screen kept displaying an error message which said 'weak or no signal, check your aerial and connection'. After contacting the host, he replied that the WiFi speeds were OK, but that the aerial may have been affected by a previous storm, and there was nothing he could do. All channels had the same problem. The biggest problem for us is that it took hours to cook our Christmas dinner. Even to pre heat the oven was a trial in itself, and it took hours to produce our meal. The owner's response was that it only runs on a 13amp fuse and isn't connected to a main wire so isn't as hot or powerful as a normal oven. In fact you can only use one shelf at a time! Surely this should be made clear at the outset and in the description of the cottage prior to booking. I don't think this cottage is fit for purpose for a Christmas break. The cottage was originally part of the owners house, which they sectioned off to make a stand alone cottage for holiday lets. Also , I would agree with other comments from previous guest reviews and an entry in the guest book which mentions that their child took a nasty fall, that the stairs are extremely steep, and I feel that this should also be mentioned in the description, since this could be a big problem for some guests. There is also a mini fan heater in the cupboard of the main bedroom which lacks a safety cut out function. So whilst I appreciate the gesture of biscuits and a Christmas card on arrival, I would much prefer to have had a good Christmas meal and a tv that worked.

We had a wonderful week at Woodland Cottage!

It is a beautiful, characterful cottage that was extremely clean when we arrived. The owners are friendly and helpful and the fresh eggs and cake were a lovely touch. The cottage has everything you could possibly need for the week and a highchair, travel cot and stair gate were all set up for our arrival. It was the perfect size for our family of four and is a really family friendly cottage for those with small children. The travel cot doesn't have an extra mattress, only the one provided with the cot, so you will need to bring one if you want that extra comfort. We needed another mattress anyway so we just bought one which was no trouble at all, just something to be aware of. The fridge/freezer is also quite small so keep this in mind when doing your shopping. We still managed to get everything in that we had ordered for the week though! So easy to get a Tesco delivery for the day we arrived. The cottage is set in a great location for exploring the local attractions. We enjoyed visiting Llangollen, the Aqueduct, Blue Planet Aquarium, Horseshoe Falls and Chester Zoo. The view from the cottage is spectacular and we loved sitting in the lovely garden as well. There are woods just opposite the cottage for great dog walks. This is a fantastic cottage and we can't wait to stay again in the future!

Cosy, clean, well maintained cottage set in a great location with stunning panoramic views of the valley beyond.

Off road parking and enclosed patio garden and every need catered for within the accommodation. There is a lovely woodland opposite the cottage across the lane, which was ideal for walks with our pooches! Visited for the first time the stunning Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen where we walked across on the footpath high above the valley with breathtaking panoramic views below. Another first time visit for us was Plas Newydd historic house and gardens and enjoyed a nice coffee in the cafe courtyard where dogs are allowed. Another first time visit for us was Horseshoe Falls with local countryside surroundings to explore. Beautiful Llangollen itself is a must to visit which of course we did and the obligatory stroll along the path overlooking the river and great to see the famous steam train in action once again. We had a lovely restful few days here and highly recommend this cottage set in a beautiful location.

We stayed for a week in Oct, we had our 3 children, niece and grandparents. The space of the house and outside grounds were great, the best we have ever stayed in. All the little extras were just so well thought out. Adult and child hampers, a bottle of Prosecco, waters and juices in the fridge and even a bottle of tonic and lemons and limes!!! A cupboard with essentials, like home from home. We all enjoyed the hot tub (and they even provide robes for adults and children) and playing pool outside and even used the gas bbq and enjoyed the chiminea which also is laid ready to use with wood provided. Be ready for the single track access and high hedges but it’s worth the drive and is so peaceful. We would definitely stay again.

What a cottage!! Just perfect in every way, the way the outdoor space has been designed means it can even be used if the weather isn't on your side. The kitchen was so well equipped, we baked on a rainy day and had everything we needed. Plenty of fridge and freezer space. Towels and robes provided for the hot tub as well as towels in the bedrooms for showering, so lots of space saved when packing. WiFi was great and the area was lovely and quiet, I bet we heard no more than 2 cars a day. Hot tub well maintained and treated every couple of days (early in the morning so no bother to us at all). There's a Morrisons 10 minutes away in the car which was very handy. The hosts were just lovely and we look forward to coming back again
