Thornlea is a spacious, quirky and well-equipped cottage in Whitby, praised for its excellent location near the beach and coastal paths. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds, sea views, and dog-friendly features. The house is ideal for families and groups, offering plenty of space and thoughtful touches. While some mention minor maintenance issues and occasional lapses in cleanliness, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
Most guests found the property clean and welcoming, with fresh bedding and towels. However, a few reviews noted issues such as dirty linen, unkempt gardens, and areas needing a deeper clean, particularly under furniture and in some bedrooms. These concerns were generally outweighed by positive comments, but they do indicate occasional inconsistencies.
The location is highly praised, with easy access to Whitby, Sandsend, and the beach via scenic cliff paths. Guests love the sea views and proximity to local amenities, making it ideal for walkers, families, and dog owners.
Guests consistently mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a cosy atmosphere, even in colder months. The conservatory and multiple bathrooms add to the comfort, though a few noted minor issues with some beds and sofas.
The house is well-equipped with kitchenware, games, books, and dog-friendly amenities. Parking is ample, and there are thoughtful extras like crab nets and a coffee machine. Some guests noted maintenance issues such as blown windows, tired decor, and the need for a large pan, but these did not significantly detract from their stay.
Many guests appreciated the personal touches, such as books, games, dog bowls, and even dog food. Some mentioned small extras like tea and coffee, but please note that such gifts or supplies are not guaranteed for every stay.

The house was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well appointed. Itâs situated in a lovely area of Whitby and ideally located for walking the dog with the cliff path a few metres from the house. A great, fully enclosed rear garden making it safe to let the dog wander freely - he loved it.It would have been nice to be able to open the windows in the conservatory as these were all locked with no keys provided. The weeds in the front garden spoiled the kerb appeal of the house making it look a bit neglected. This was a real shame. Other than that I canât fault it and would highly recommend it.

Thornlea is a well presented, clean, comfortable and spacious holiday home. We loved it's position, out of the hustle and bustle of Whitby but only a short walk away from the town centre. The close proximity of the coastal path and beaches provided some lovey walks too. We had a great holiday.
