Staying at this beautiful chapel is a unique experience and families are sure to be impressed with its high quality finish.

The pretty village of Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of striking North Yorkshire Moors scenery. The area is characterised by its narrow roads, steep hills and scenic views over valleys of patchwork fields and wide-open expanses of moorland. Grosmont itself lies in the ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, art gallery, cafes and a pub. It makes a great base for exploring the many pretty farming villages along the Esk Valley and the wider North York Moors National Park, as well as the North Yorkshire Coastline with characterful harbour towns and villages.

It was furnished to a high standard, it was well equipped, had comfortable beds and the views from the living area were stunning. We loved that we could walk from the property to the railway station. We enjoyed walks from the house as well as catching a train a few stations along then walking back. We barely used our car. There was a friendly pub in the village and a well stocked and welcoming shop. We had a high quality meal at a pub (The Postgate) in a neighbouring village and again very welcoming. We parked in Robin Hood’s Bay and walked along the coast and headed back on the cinder track. We wished we had two weeks instead of one week there was so much to see and enjoy. I highly recommend Chapel on the Hill as a place to relax after long walks exploring the glorious North Yorkshire Moors.

It is well appointed and if you want to go on a true self-catering holiday, this place has everything you need! Grosmont is well situated to do walks "from the door" as well as being convenient to explore the rest of this beautiful area by car. We had a wonderful week's break and highly recommend Chapel on the Hill.
