About this property

A luxury three bedroom cottage huddled in the heart of the Esk Valley in the picturesque village of Grosmont, with fantastic views over North Yorkshire’s finest scenery.

This converted village school is proudly ranked as ‘one of Britain’s best-equipped holiday properties for those with mobility issues’ in the Yorkshire Post and offers a fantastic and welcoming base for anyone seeking a special getaway close to the coast.

To the ground floor you will find a good size sitting room with comfortable seating, TV with Freeview and a Blu-ray player. The property benefits from underfloor heating throughout – lovely and cosy in the cooler months.

The smart kitchen is well equipped and has a lovely granite worktop to add a touch of luxury. Keep the cook company in the nearby dining area, and enjoy mealtimes seated on one of the renovated pews – a delightful nod to the property’s Wesleyan history.

The ground floor has been specially designed for the elderly or those with mobility issues. There is an additional fully-equipped ground floor bedroom with a large en-suite shower room with wet room, basin and WC. Throughout, there are wider doors for wheelchair access, external ramp entrance and a covered area for electric charging of any equipment.

Upstairs, There’s a double bedroom with a king-size bed and an en-suite shower room with shower, basin and WC. A twin bedroom has two full size single beds, plus an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower over, basin and WC.

Moving outside, the patio has spectacular valley views of woodland, moors and rolling meadows.

Head into Grosmont village, where you will find several cafes and a cosy pub, including a tearoom at the 1952 themed heritage railway station. Take a ride on the steam train from Grosmont to the bustling market town of Pickering, gateway to the North York Moors. Or head to the coast on the Esk Valley line from Grosmont to picturesque Whitby, known for its lovely sandy beach, Abbey ruins, St. Mary’s church and, of course, top notch fish and chips.

This superb luxury cottage really is a gem of a find, perfect for everyone!

The pretty village of Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of striking North Yorkshire Moors scenery. The area is characterised by its narrow roads, steep hills and scenic views over valleys of patchwork fields and wide-open expanses of moorland. Grosmont itself lies in the ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, art gallery, cafes and a pub. It makes a great base for exploring the many pretty farming villages along the Esk Valley and the wider North York Moors National Park, as well as the North Yorkshire Coastline with characterful harbour towns and villages.

We had a great week where my mum could be independent. Grosmont is gorgeous and the steam trains disability friendly too. All perfect.

We had a couple of issues - the fire alarm and the sink in the downstairs bedroom but both were sorted straight away and the owner was really friendly. The disabled facilities were perfect for my Mum. Thank you for providing such a beautiful place to spend a few days.

  • Caroline

The only feedback that we have would be that the option to split the double bed into 2 singles would also be helpful.
