About this property

A charming cottage with outstanding views over verdant Esk Valley countryside towards Limber Hill.

Once a village Sunday school and now lovingly restored and furnished to provide quality, 4 Star Gold, accommodation in the village of Grosmont, 7 miles from Whitby.

An idyllic retreat, ideally situated for families or couples seeking to explore the splendours of North Yorkshire’s moors and coastline.

Stone steps lead to the front door of this pretty cottage. An entrance hallway opens onto a sitting room with stunning valley vistas. How wonderful it is to watch the sun go down over glorious countryside on a summer’s evening. Comfortable seating and TV/Freeview and Blu-ray player provide entertainment after busy days outdoors.

There’s an immaculate and well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops and a pleasant dining area for you to enjoy sociable meals - or simply linger a while with your morning cuppa and enjoy the morning papers and crossword! A handy downstairs cloakroom completes the ground floor.

Upstairs, the bedrooms have relaxing, valley views. Open your curtains to glorious, picture-perfect scenery! There’s a double with en-suite shower room with shower, basin and WC. The twin bedroom is also en-suite with a bathroom, including bath, shower over, basin and WC.

The first floor offers two bedrooms, both en-suite, and both having lovely views over the valley. The double bedroom has a an en-suite shower room with shower, WC and hand wash basin. The twin bedroom has two full size single beds, plus an en-suite bathroom, which includes a bath, shower over, basin and WC.

Step outside and feel instantly refreshed to be in such an idyllic rural setting. Relax at the table and chairs, perhaps dine al fresco. Listen out for the nostalgic sound of an heritage steam train as it whistles into Grosmont station – a great means by which to explore more lovely places, such as Pickering and Whitby.

Those with an interest in railways, can visit the engine sheds at Grosmont and see the world's oldest passenger railway tunnel, built by railway pioneer George Stephenson. There’s also a Pullman’s dining car at certain times of year which is a gastronomic delight! Stretch your legs with a pleasant 3.5-mile saunter along the Rail Trail and follow Stephenson’s original railway line from Grosmont, via Beck Hole, to Goathland – there’s a wonderful display of bluebells every May.

It’s a ten minute drive to the coast from Grosmont. Take your pick from picturesque fishing villages such as Staithes, Robin Hood’s Bay or Runswick Bay – all of which offer excellent coastal walking opportunities. Or head over to Whitby and wander its cobbled ‘old town’ and discover its fine maritime heritage, literary connections and iconic Abbey. There are regular services from Grosmont on the Esk Valley Railway, to and from Whitby.

Limber View is a tranquil retreat, well placed for discovering the area your way – by foot, bike or train.

The pretty village of Grosmont sits at the junction of the River Esk and Murk Esk in the midst of striking North Yorkshire Moors scenery. The area is characterised by its narrow roads, steep hills and scenic views over valleys of patchwork fields and wide-open expanses of moorland. Grosmont itself lies in the ‘Heartbeat Country’ and is famous for being the home of the North York Moors Steam Railway. The Railway has been preserved and run by enthusiasts since 1973 and today carries upwards of 300,000 passengers a year. The village has a general store, post office, book shop, art gallery, cafes and a pub. It makes a great base for exploring the many pretty farming villages along the Esk Valley and the wider North York Moors National Park, as well as the North Yorkshire Coastline with characterful harbour towns and villages.

Made special by the homely welcoming touches like tea, coffee, milk and biscuits. A very very light, airy delightful property. Information provided by the owners about the history not only of the property but the local area was very interesting. Would certainly revisit and recommend to others.
