The beautiful hamlet of Beckermonds is positioned in the very heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This detached holiday cottage makes an ideal retreat from everyday life, being one of only five dwellings in this secluded location. Beckermonds, from the ‘Old Norse’, means the ‘meeting of the streams’. It is here, at the confluence of Oughtershaw and Greenfield becks, that the River Wharfe starts its journey through Langstrothdale, into Upper Wharfedale and then continues to define one of the most celebrated dales. Right outside the door are memorable walking opportunities set amid breath-taking scenery, as well as private fly fishing nearby (trout, free of charge, Mar-Sep). The private, enclosed, dog friendly, west facing garden is a glorious sun trap on summer evenings, from where you can expect to see rare red squirrels and a variety of wildlife.
Contained within a 5-mile easy walking radius, you will find three quintessential dales pubs. Why not visit them together in an 11-mile circuit walk? The market town of Hawes is only 7 miles away and offers shops, pubs, restaurants, tea rooms, banks and a chemist, as well as a traditional British fish and chip restaurant. Hawes is also the home to the famous Hawes Creamery, makers of Wallace and Gromits favourite Wensleydale cheese. Shop 5 miles, pub and restaurant 4 miles.

A magical place to stay.The owners have taken great care to think of everything you will need, they are very thoughtful and considerate.The cottage has a lovely relaxed feel, and the garden and surrounding area is enchanting.We loved it!

Really loved it.Barn was super cosy and warm when we arrived. In an amazingly quiet area with fantastic walks from the door. We did very little driving in the week we were there.Saw red squirrel in the garden!

We have been having holidays in Woods Barn for the last 25 years, in all seasons.It is a spacious and comfortable home and well equipped. WiFi is good but there is no mobile phone signal except an intermittent one with EEIt is in a fairly isolated location but there is a lovely walk along the river to the George Inn at Hubberholme (3-4 hours return) and more strenuous walks from the doorstep. However, we would consider a car essential for further exploration and access to amenities. A 20 minute drive to Hawes , with shops, pubs , tourist attractions and children’s playground. 40 minutes drive to Grassington.We would consider Langstrothdale the prettiest of the Yorkshire Dales and perfect for peace and quiet. The pretty garden is great for birdwatching, ( and sometimes red squirrels), relaxing and is enclosed for small children or dogs.The owners, Joe and Diane, are easily contacted and very helpful.All in all, a perfect holiday for those who enjoy getting away from the hustle and bustle!
