What our customers say about their holidays

    • Mrs Petty - Verified booking

We had a wonderful holiday at Gun Hill place with the whole family together for a special occasion. The house is beautifully decorated and furnished with lovely fabrics, colours, furniture and art. It is also well equipped, very comfortable and spacious, and very light. The garden was a great and safe place for our grandchildren to play in and for us to enjoy the sunny weather too. Added to that it has spectacular views of the cannon on Gun Hill and the sea beyond. It has one of the best positions in Southwold. It is only a short walk to the beach and the Gun Hill Kiosk which has good coffee and great bacon sandwiches, and the beach there is huge and sandy and not as busy as it is nearer the town. It is also just a short walk into the centre of Southwold for shopping, and to enjoy all the other things that make Southwold so special. The owners were very helpful with the minor problems we had and responded immediately. We would love to go if we can ever manage to herd our family together again in one place at one time.

This is a beautiful, very characterful cottage in a central location near shops, the sea and the downs. It provides spacious and very comfortable accommodation with every facility we could have wanted. It has been thoughtfully extended to retain its wonderful character while also providing all modern conveniences. All the bedrooms are a good size and the bedding was very comfortable and clean. The second lounge is useful if you have to work while away as it has a desk and good internet. The garden is very pretty and is well provided with seating and tables - a lovely place to eat or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. We had regular visits in the garden from a pheasant too! The owners were generous with supplies of hand wash, laundry liquid and cleaning supplies which was very helpful and the welcome goodies were lovely. Probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in!

Stunning property, in a great location.

Very well equipped especially the kitchen with nice options of glasses and tableware. All bedrooms were very comfortable and suited our needs. It was great to have the first floor living room with amazing views out towards the sea. The only minor criticism would be that the floors are due a better clean, as there is a lot of dust buildup under beds and sofas, which we probably wouldn’t have noticed, but with small children dropping toys etc, we noticed this quite a lot. We think the first floor lounge could do with a deep clean on the floor. Also we couldn’t find a folder with the leaving instructions on and the WiFi password was not easy to find but was on a shelf in the kitchen. All in all we would definitely stay here again, as it’s a lovely property.

Beautifully appointed stunning house, our second visit , as a family we love it and will be back next year.

Only criticism is minor , but there was a lack of information about the Wi-Fi , the house notes just said “find the router for the password” , rather than just listing it…. We eventually found a small card on the window sill in the kitchen with the details , I had called the contact number and the chap I spoke to said a few people have had the same problem , I never managed to find the router but did update house notes to reflect where the card containing the password was….. that process took a day to locate ….. it didn’t need to be that complicated.

We have been going on holiday to Southwold for many years and never disappoints. We had a wonderful week in Southwold as always, very relaxing which is what we were looking for. The accommodation at Alpha was comfortable and in a good location on pier avenue, although being two females, we struggled to open the key safe and it would have been useful to have a freezer compartment, otherwise we enjoyed our stay. We would also like to thank the Suffolk Secrets staff, they are always polite and helpful.
