About this property

Blandford Forum 6.6 miles, Shaftesbury 6.5 miles. This delightful, newly refurbished mid-terrace cottage lies in the charming village of Iwerne Minster, in the Dorset countryside about six miles south of Shaftesbury. Boasting period features throughout, The Nook offers a tranquil retreat for those looking to take a break from busy lives. On the ground floor off the entrance hall, there is a spacious sunlit living room, with two comfortable 2-seater sofas, occasional tables and a TV with Freeview. Continuing through there is a kitchen/diner, looking out onto cottage-style rear garden, equipped with ceramic hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave and table/chairs for four. On the first floor, there is a lovely double bedroom, with a character dormer window overlooking the surrounding countryside, along with a twin room. Both are served by a large bathroom with bath and over shower. The sheltered sunny rear garden is perfect for alfresco dining or enjoying a morning coffee or an evening gin and tonic. The village of Iwerne Minster is home to a pub/restaurant, perfect for a meal if you fancy a night off cooking, and a well stocked village shop, ideal for picking up both essentials and luxuries. The close-by villages of Fontmell Magna, Iwerne Courtney and Child Okeford have excellent pubs too, serving locally sourced food and beverages. Drive north from the village to the Saxon hilltop town of Shaftesbury and walk up Gold Hill and/or visit Shaftesbury Abbey Gardens and Museum. Alternatively drive south to the Georgian market town of Blandford Forum. Visit the Hall and Woodhouse Brewery, where you can learn about beer-making and sample Fursty Ferret and Tangle Foot beer., and if time permits you can also visit the Royal Signals museum at Blandford Camp and learn about military communications from semaphore to cyber. On the way to Blandford pass the hill forts of Hambleton Hill and Hod Hill - constructed in the Iron Age and Roman times respectively. Both make rewarding local climbs with far reaching views of the countryside. For longer days out, potential trips include the Tank Museum at Bovington, The National Trust’s Kingston Lacy and Stourhead Houses, and the magnificent Jurassic and West Dorset Heritage coastline. The towns and cities of Salisbury, Sherborne, Bournemouth, Poole, Dorchester, and even Bath are also very accessible.

Settled on the outskirts of The Blackmore Vale, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to Blandford Forum in North Dorset, lies the rural village of Child Okeford. The village hosts a choice of pubs and shops, whilst the nearby ancient Iron Age Fort of Hambledon Hill dominates the landscape and provides wonderful walks. Within easy reach is the county town of Dorchester and the breathtaking Jurassic coast.
