In the heart of the ancient Stannary town of Chagford, just off The Square is this stylish and completely refurbished Grade II Listed thatched granite cottage, offering a unique base from which to explore Dartmoor National Park.Church Stile Cottage was built around the 16th century and boasts masses of character, constantly echoing a simpler time with well-preserved original features like the granite fireplace, exposed oak beams and the rustic bread oven. From the cottage long views towards Dartmoor hills and Castle Drogo can be seen through the ancient mullioned windows. Head inside past the stone benches and through the ancient latched door, and step onto the beautiful oak wood flooring of the sitting room, where a classic Chesterfield leather sofa and welcoming gas flame-effect woodburner awaits you. Decorated with much style and flair this is an incredibly welcoming room with lots of original artwork from local artists making it feel very homely. Two steps up to the kitchen/breakfast room, a neat but well and well-equipped kitchen. Stairs from the sitting room lead up to two pretty bedrooms where you can rest your head; choose from either the master double bedroom or the single bedroom, with antique furnishings complementing the property’s age and history very well, creating pleasant spaces to wind down in after a busy day. Freshen up in the most contemporary room of all; the sparkling shower room features a fitted shower cubicle along with a basin and WC, while on the ground floor there is a convenient cloakroom with a basin and WC as well. Begin exploring Chagford on foot, get to know the wide-ranging amenities the town has to offer. – cosy cafés, a deli, independent boutiques and lovely food shops all offering a host of local produce. Chagford boasts four traditional pubs each serving delicious food and local ales. Set off for walks in the surrounding landscapes. Chagford is a market town and civil parish resting on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, in the Devonshire countryside.
