What our customers say about their holidays

      What a wonderful holiday home.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely be returning. The welcome hamper on arrival was appreciated by my son as im gluten and dairy free so i couldn't enjoy most of it but lovely idea. Would of been nice to see a herbal teabag not just tea/coffee sachets. The home is private and not overlooked in the garden. I would of liked access to a seat in the garden but understand they must of been packed away for winter. Other good points comfy bed very clean all round. Everything needed is there dishwasher tablets Sanitizer loo roll. Theres use of a hoover and iron. The shower was fabulous a walk in type. Great for people with disabilities like myself. In fact the whole bungalow is accessible. Only difficulty i had was lifting my scoota in and out the raised front step and only negative for me is the duvet insert 13.5 tog is much too thick. I was much too hot at night and had heating off. Perhaps keep a lightweight one in the airing cupboard. Lovely quiet area. Shops are a comfortable walking distance. Lovely walks on the Parke estate. Moors nearby. My next stay will be sure to include a visit to the best tearoom in Lustleigh few miles drive from Bovey who do cater for most dietary requirements. Looking forward to my next break. Big Thankyou to owners for such a lovely stay!

Forge Place was a very comfortable place to stay in, and very conveniently situated, and the owners provided a really substantial and much-appreciated welcome pack of food and drink.

As a base for a couple or small family it provided all the necessities for a stay in the Dartmoor area. We loved Bovey Tracey as a town, and were delighted to find our stay coincided with a National Garden Scheme Open Gardens weekend, so we got to see some of the lovely local gardens. We also enjoyed the Craft Centre, and the Art Gallery at Bovey Paradiso, and a walk in the Parke Estate, such a great facility on the doorstep. Bovey Tracey was well placed for us to visit Castle Drogo (National Trust place to the north), and to visit friends in North Dartmoor, and to get to National Trust properties Greenway and Coleton Fishacre further south. As regards the house, we might have enjoyed the use of a DVD player and some DVDs and books, but perhaps these were taken away during the Covid pandemic. We were able to buy some books at the town's charity shops, and there was enough on TV channels to keep us occupied of an evening, anyway, but it is always interesting to see what can be found amongst a holiday let's DVDs and books! The town was well provided with food shops, pubs, and cafes. So glad we made the journey (the travelling down was the worst part, took a lot longer than expected). Thanks for a lovely holiday.

      We’re a family of 4, our children are 5 and 8.

We had a lovely week at Forge Place. The house was well kitted out, cosy and had everything we needed. Bovey Tracey is a really nice place – the children loved the House of Marbles, heritage centre and Jolly Rogers (which has life-sized models to look at). There are several good play parks and we went to the outdoor swimming pool. We also took to the bikes and did a couple of rides, from just up the road there’s a lovely ride to Newton Abbot or Moretonhampstead the other way. We also went on the steam train at Paignton, to the beach and Newton Abbott Museum. We barely scratched the surface, there’s loads to do in the area. Our car broke down and had to go to a garage, we could still get around reasonably by bus and there are trains from Newton Abbott. The owners, Gill and Adam, are really nice. They showed the children footage of the hedgehogs and mice in the wildlife area opposite the cottage and when they heard of our car problems they were really helpful. We don’t usually go back to the same place but felt it was so nice with lots to do nearby we may well go back in a few years’ time.

What a wonderful place to stay for a holiday on the moor.

Clean, cosy, comfortable. A well laid out holiday cottage, good sized bedrooms, great well-equipped kitchen and an airy and well lit sitting room. The owners have taken time and care in making this an ideal place to base a getaway from busyness and stress. Everything worked and was easy to use with good instructions. It was great to leave the car safely parked and just cross over the road and onto the moor for a stroll up to Haytor rocks and beyond. On the Sunday we went up to Widecombe church where we received a warm welcome and then back to the cottage for lunch followed by a walk over to the medieval village at Hound Tor. A good place for an excellent meal after a walk near Widecombe is the Ruddlestone Inn, where the atmosphere and food is excellent. We would have loved to stay for a further week if it had been possible. Long may Ludgate Cottage continue to be a lovely place to come to for future visitors and their families.

The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable.

The useful information folder was welcome, lots of cottages seem not to bother with this anymore but it’s a real help. With children we tend to eat in, and the lovely big kitchen made this an easy option. Also nice to have a full size freezer. Plenty of crockery and cutlery. The children loved the beds and sofas, they were very also very comfortable. The cottage is also well situated in a beautiful location up on Dartmoor but within easy access to nearby towns and coast, so lots of options for different outings. It is very rural so you need to drive with care , we had lots of encounters with ponies , cows and sheep on and off the roads. This added to the children’s pleasure! Lots of games ,DVDs, books available in cottage for wet days are a nice touch. Wi-Fi worked very well. We would certainly consider a return visit and would thoroughly recommend.
