Comfort and convenience go hand in hand in this rustic retreat, which is a great base for exploring Devon’s beaches, walks and fabulous attractions.

Exposed stone walls, rugged beams and a timber roof combine to make this lovely hideaway feel rustic and calming. If you’ve spent the day walking, you can kick off your boots in the hallway before entering the open-plan living space, which has a kitchen with a wooden floor at the far end. Here, you’ll find both a microwave and a dishwasher to make preparing meals and cleaning up afterwards a breeze. The dining table is adjacent and then, at the opposite end, there’s a cosy lounge area with a TV and wood burner – perfect for snuggling up with a favourite movie. When you start to yawn, head to the double bedroom, or relax with a soak in the sleek bathroom. As for outside space, don’t hesitate to make the most of seven acres of shared grounds, which include lawns, woodland, ponds and even a dog-walking field. And if you’re feeling active, you can play tennis (during the summer months) or swim in the heated indoor pool, taking a sauna afterwards.

One of a small collection of cottages on the site, the property is on the outskirts of the coastal village of Combe Martin. Bordered by the Exmoor National Park and the North Devon National Landscape, this is an excellent area for walking, mountain biking and horse riding. Hire a kayak or a stand-up paddleboard on the beach, or head off on a day out to picturesque Lynton and Lynmouth, 13 miles.
