About this property

The Cider House is a Grade II Listed barn conversion set on a secluded private estate in its own secluded valley with no passing traffic, yet just two miles from the beach. Combe Martin and the many attractions of Exmoor National Park are a stones throw away, as is the South West Coast Path and the beautiful, sandy beaches of the North Devon coast. This child and dog-friendly cottage sleeps up to four guests in two en-suite bedrooms, one of which opens directly onto the south-facing terrace. There are stunning views from every window out over the landscaped gardens to the valley beyond.  The fun doesn't stop when the sun goes down - lack of light pollution means the night skies here are pretty awesome! Cider House is perfect for a get away from it all holiday for couples and small families.

The Cider House is a wonderful conversion of a traditional Grade-II Listed bank barn in a peaceful location in the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The two-bedroom cottage sleeps up to four people, with guests enjoying fantastic views from the house and the south-facing courtyard. Combe Martin and magnificent beaches are nearby, as are the many attractions of Exmoor National Park and the South West Coast Path. It's a fantastic holiday destination for couples and families at any time of the year.

There's a good reason why Combe Martin has long been a favourite place for a holiday. It has everything you could wish for, whether you crave excitement and adventure, you love to laze around and do very little, have an interest in history, or make every meal one to remember. The scenic landscape is navigated via an excellent network of footpaths to beauty spots like Great Hangman and around Arlington Court. The South West Coast Path and Exmoor are just a mile away offering ever-changing views, while the trails in the Heddon Valley traverse a more gentle scene. Exmoor's vast ruggedness is wildly breathtaking, with other places to walk including the Valley of the Rocks, Lynmouth and Watersmeet. Horse riding, cycling and mountain biking are all readily accessible, and you can book an Exmoor Wildlife Safari with an expert guide to show you secrets of the moors that visitors rarely discover.

Combe Martin's beach is a sheltered cove with a sandy shoreline. The conditions are consistently great for swimming, kayaking and paddle-boarding. You can arrange equipment hire and lessons during the school holidays and in summer. Deep rock-pools are treasure troves of barnacles, sea anemones and other marine life. Away from the beach, Combe Martin has a bustling, two-mile-long street with shops, cafes, ice cream parlours and other businesses. Make sure you stop for a drink at the Pack o' Cards Inn, a quirky pub constructed in 1626 from the winnings from a card game. The owner's designs included 52 windows for the number of cards in a deck, and four floors with 13 doors on each, to represent the number of cards and suits.

There is loads to do all year round when you stay at The Cider House. Discover the delights of the cliff railway that takes passengers between Lynton and Lynmouth, visit Arlington Court and the National Carriage Museum, and wander around beautiful gardens like RHS Rosemoor. Exmoor Zoo, the Combe Martin Dinosaur and Wildlife Park, The Big Sheep, and the Milky Way Adventure Park are always a hit with younger visitors.

The Cider House is one of three lovely Nutcombe Holiday Cottages, each of which can be booked with others to accommodate extended families or groups of friends. Please see the owner's website for information.

Accommodation Comprises:

The Cider House is a bank barn conversion with an upper-level entrance and accommodation over two stories.

Upstairs:

  • Enter directly into the open-plan living area and kitchen with warm oak flooring, original stone walls and exposed beams. The vaulted ceiling adds to the light, spacious atmosphere. The panoramic countryside views change with the weather and the seasons but are always gorgeous.
  • Fitted kitchen/diner with stylish granite work surfaces, a Smeg fridge/freezer, ceramic hob with an extractor fan, and an electric oven. Cupboards are well-stocked with plates, glasses, pots, pans and other cooking equipment. A half-height wall separates the kitchen from the dining room and living area, ensuring that the cook never feels isolated and allowing families time to chat and catch up.
  • Seating area with a sofa and two matching armchairs, a 48" Smart Freesat TV with over 200 channels and a DVD player. The coffee table and sideboard are also oak.
  • Downstairs:

  • Master bedroom with a wrought iron king-size bed, bedside tables with reading lights, and ample storage for guests to unpack their clothes and feel at home. The bedroom overlooks the cobbled courtyard to the countryside - it's a gorgeous view to see first thing every day. The master en-suite has a bath with an overhead shower, WC and a hand-basin.
  • Second bedroom with a full-sized (3ft-wide) single bed and a door opening onto the terrace. A full-sized trundle bed turns this room from a single into a twin, although its size makes it more suitable for two children than two adults. The luxurious en-suite has a rainfall shower, WC and a hand-basin.
  • Convenient cupboard hiding the washer/dryer. There is an ironing board stored in the master bedroom wardrobe.
  • Outside: The Cider House has an enclosed south-facing courtyard accessed via the single bedroom on the ground floor. It has two sun loungers as well as an outdoor table with a parasol. There is also an enclosed dog garden shared with the other two cottages, and a three-acre field for dog walking, playing and bird watching.

Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi, bed linen and all towels are provided. Guests to supply beach towels and dog towels if they are required. A cot (including bedding) and a highchair are available, and stair-gates are fitted at the top of all stairs. Two well behaved dogs are welcome through prior arrangement with the owner.
