About this property

Nestled within the Blackdown Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the Devonshire village of Hemyock is Shillings Cottage, a delightful, one-bedroom dwelling. Enveloped by far-reaching, countryside views, whilst offering guests access to a shared unheated outdoor swimming pool (seasonal availability) and manicured gardens, Shillings Cottage delivers an escape for couples, inviting two guests and a furry companion. Park up off-road before walking through the pretty garden to reach the cottage. Step inside to be greeted by the small, yet well-equipped kitchen/diner, where you can prepare and enjoy romantic meals with a glass of wine in hand. On the ground floor, you'll also find a compact shower room, where you can prepare for your coming days. Head upstairs to find the lovely king-size bedroom, with a plush sofa and wall-mounted TV in place, where you can unwind after a day of adventure.

The private patio offers a tranquil setting to enjoy a late-night tipple, as the sun sets over Devon. Come morning, take advantage of the expansive garden on offer, bordered by roses, lavender, and thyme, where you can bask in the sunshine before cooling off with a dip in the pool. Once you're ready to explore, head into the village where you'll find a Post Office and village shop, along with The Catherine Wheel pub, serving up delicious, traditional fare; Hemyock Castle is also located in the village, ideal for touring whilst on your travels. Travel into Honiton for further attractions, where you can discover the Thelma Hulbert Gallery, brush up on your local knowledge at the All Hallows Museum of Honiton, or hike through Coombe Woods, whilst the East Devon AONB rests south. Round off your break in pretty Taunton, with the Museum of Somerset, along with the French Weir Park resting alongside River Tone, before enjoying a meal out at the popular Wildwood European restaurant. Make memories with your loved one at Shillings Cottage.

The small, historic village of Hemyock is situated in the beautiful Culm Valley, quietly nestling amidst the stunning Blackdown Hills. The village itself features a small Norman Castle situated adjacent to the parish church, a welcoming pub serving fine food and two shops with a small post office. Horse riding and fishing facilities are on hand, whilst the pretty town of Wellington, with its award winning park, lies just 5 miles away offering a wide variety of pubs, craft and gift shops and a monthly Farmer’s Market attracting visitors from all around. Short walk into the village & half hours drive from north or south coastlines. A little cold in October to try the swimming pool, but would be great in the summer! Lovely host, couldn’t be happier!!
