Beautiful Portreath, with its protected harbour, was a bustling tin-exporting hub in the 1800s. The village's wild and rugged coastline is now a major tourist attraction. The area is characterised by high cliffs, hidden coves, and sandy, surf-washed beaches, and its rich industrial past is evident everywhere. Portreath's safe, sheltered sandy beach and abundance of amenities (including a small fishing harbour, shops, multiple bars, three cafes, and a Chinese restaurant) make it a popular destination. The cathedral city of Truro, with its cobblestone streets, shopping centre, theatre, museum, and great restaurants, is just 14 miles away. Alternatively, you can drive a few miles along the coast and follow the vast expanse of sandy beach that winds its way down to Hayle and on to St. Ives. A wonderful place to spend a holiday.
