Sleeping up to four guests in a homely setting, Garden Cottage is ideal for a small family or a couple looking for a getaway in this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Cotswolds.

Upon entering the cottage, you are immediately welcomed by the open-plan living space, the sitting area showcases a charming Cotswold stone fireplace with a warming woodburning stove, where you can snuggle up in front of the flames on the welcoming sofas and catch up on the TV on choose from the selection of books and games on offer to have a fun-filled evening, the attractive shaker-style kitchen overlooks the garden and contains everything you and your guests need to cook up delicious home-cooked meals before retreating to the wooden dining table to catch up about your schedule for the holiday that lies before you.

A handy utility room lies on the ground floor, containing a washing machine and tumble dryer, meaning you and your guests can leave with a bag full of clean washing at the end of your stay.

As the day draws to a close, head up the open riser spiral staircase to the first floor where you will find the light and airy bath room and through a lovely arched doorway, bedroom two, with ample storage space and a double bed.

A second flight of stairs leads up to the master bedroom in the eaves which enjoys scenic views across to the church and distant fields, has ample storage and a king size bed, the perfect space to lay your head and get some well-earned rest.

In the morning, make use of the Nespresso coffee machine and milk frother in the kitchen, before retreating to the beautiful walled garden to enjoy the fresh country air; you will see that the foundations of three former cottages have been transformed into an unusual multi-level space with carefully thought-out cottage garden planting.

A paving stone pathway leads you uphill to the first patio, which is a sunny spot with a gas barbecue and garden table set, the path continues uphill under a rose-covered archway to a pergola and second patio featuring seating and a fire pit and from here, the path bends back through an elevated wild flower meadow, where there is a hammock slung under an old plum tree and, further on, a bench for enjoying the sights and scents.

With the lowest wall on the long south side, the garden enjoys sunshine throughout the day, while mature trees provide welcome shaded areas in the warmer months.

Get yourself ready for the day and head out into the market town of Chipping Norton, where you can enjoy some breakfast at The Old Mill Coffee House & Bistro, before catching a show at The Chipping Norton Theatre or meandering around the market square where you may be lucky to catch the farmers’ market if you’re visiting on the third Saturday that occurs of each month.

A short car journey will bring you to nearby Chadlington, where you can indulge in delicious hamburgers, cool draft beers, lagers, ciders and rosé, and also the interesting cow juice at Diddly Squat Farm.

Within easy reach of the town is Kingham which is a peaceful and secluded village, an excellent centre for walking and cycling with a number of walks and cycle rides centred on the village, set in the broad Evenlode valley with wide open village greens and a village shop, a church and two pubs; The Kingham Plough and The Wild Rabbit.

Brush up on your history by visiting Chastleton which is a pretty little village lying close to Chipping Norton, where you can visit the well-known Chastleton House which is a splendid Grade l listed Jacobean manor built in the early 1600s.

The ancient town of Chipping Norton, steeped in history and culture, is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in the shadow of the Rollright Hills in this unspoilt area of Oxfordshire. Chipping Norton boasts a popular weekly market, numerous book and antique shops, many cafes, restaurants and pubs serving excellent food and local ales, art galleries, a museum and a thriving theatre. Chipping Norton is surrounded by the pretty limestone villages of the Cotswolds and offers many walks and cycle trails from the town centre, together with a Lido, perfect for a relaxing swim at the end of a busy day. Blenheim Palace, Rousham House and Gardens and numerous National Trust properties are close by, and a little further afield Stratford Upon Avon, birthplace of William Shakespeare, and the magnificent university town of Oxford are a real delight. A wonderful holiday destination, perfect for exploring all this lovely area has to offer.
