About this property

Perched in the port town of Sandwich in Kent, is the superb 16th-century Tudor Cottage which has its own private entrance. Enjoying an abundance of character throughout its interior, including exposed beams, as well as easy access to the local amenities and coast, Tudor Cottage is a wonderful base for a family of five. Step into the dining room, where you can look forward to long lazy dinners and recounting the days adventures. Evenings can be spent relaxing in the inviting sitting room, with plush seating and a Smart TV to keep you entertained, as well as a woodburning stove. Impress your guests with flavourful recipes cooked up in the well-equipped kitchen, before choosing to dine at the table for six or alfresco in the rear walled courtyard. Climb the stairs to the first floor, where you can throw the days clothes into the handy washing machine, before enjoying a leisurely soak in the bath or refreshing shower. As your eyes grow heavy, choose from three well-presented bedrooms to catch your rest in, a king-size with Simba mattress and freestanding slipper bath, a twin room with TV and firestick, and an additional single with plenty of storage. In the morning, wake-up tired eyes with a steaming cup of coffee courtesy of the Dolce Gusto coffee maker and plan the day's adventures. Take advantage of your prime location along the thriving high street, where you will find a fantastic selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes to suit every taste and budget. There is plenty to do in the town, including the Sandwich Guildhall Museum, the White Mill Rural Heritage Museum and the Gazen Salts Nature Reserve, sure to entice any keen wildlife enthusiasts. Keen golfers will also delight at the close proximity of the two championship courses nearby, the Royal St. George and Princes, or if that isn’t your thing, why not take a boat trip along the River Stour or embark on a trip to see the seals which frequent the shores. Be sure to check out the nearby Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory Trust, where you can expect a plethora of wildlife, along with courses and evening talks. For a fun-filled day out with your loved ones, head to Wingham where you can explore the delights of the Wingham Wildlife Park, followed by lunch at the 13th-century Dog at Wingham. Embark on a two-footed adventure or a bike ride through the breath-taking Kent Downs, where you can experience the best views and scenery the region has to offer and the attractions of Belmont House and Gardens, Bredgar & Wormshill Railway, and Kearsney Abbey. Be sure to make a stop at Dover, where you can walk along the famous White Cliffs of Dover and visit the historic Dover Castle. All this and more awaits with a stay at Tudor Cottage.

One of the original five Cinque Ports, Sandwich, became wealthy by building ships for the queen before a formal fleet was established. 2 miles separate it from the ocean. The river is currently ideal for leisurely boat cruises to see the seals sunbathing close to Pegwell Bay or to visit the stunning Roman town ruins at Richborough. This mysterious location is managed by English Heritage and offers a fascinating look into life under Roman rule. The mediaeval Cinque Port of Sandwich, with its historic structures, natural preserves, golf courses, and pleasant country pubs, cafés, and restaurants, is a must-see destination for tourists. Sandwich is also surrounded by charming little towns like Eastry, Ash, Worth, and Woodnesborough, and the surrounding cities of Canterbury and the Port of Dover are easily accessible. Because Sandwich is home to the Royal Saint George's Golf Club, once dubbed the "most magnificent seaside golf course in the world," golfers are particularly drawn to the area.

The cottage is charming with oak beams, and cosy, with everything that we needed provided. We love the location, which is within easy walking distance of several very good restaurants and shops.

Bags of character and spotlessly clean. The owner is helpful without being intrusive. Lots to see and do nearby.

The kitchen is small but very well equipped only lacking a small towel to save having to wipe hands on the tea towel. The settees in the back room do get a bit uncomfortable after a while. The stairs are a bit of a challenge but the bedrooms and bathroom are lovely. Again another hand towel would be welcome. Overall we enjoyed our stay in Tudor cottage and Sandwich is a really lovely little town, full of character.
