Hellingly is a quiet village in the heart of Sussex ideally situated for exploring the Sussex countryside and the coast. The most important part of the village is its church which was started in 1190 and has been built on the only remaining undamaged ciric in Sussex. A ciric is a circular Celtic burial ground, built above ground to ensure the graves are kept dry. This location is particularly popular with walkers and cyclists due to the famous Cuckoo Trail.

Fourth year so far and canât recommend enough. Lovely owners who are there if you need them but otherwise let you get on with it. Spacious open plan accommodation downstairs with a particularly comfortable settee. Big TV with lots of apps and channels and (we found) very reliable WiFi. Kitchen fully equipped with all modern appliances. Lovely airy bedroom with comfortable bed overlooking large grounds perfect for walking your dog/s last thing. A few steps from the front door takes you to a worry free, secure garden for your dog/s with a picnic table, barbecue and whirly gig. The spa bath which is wonderful for relaxing after a hard dayâs sightseeing is very easy to use and kept scrupulously clean by owners. Rural but very handy for main roads to access beaches, towns and tourist spots. Canât recommend enough.

There is a small enclosed garden for you and your dog to sit out in, and you also have access to the owners adjacent 10 acre of garden and woodland to exercise your dog, plus there are local footpath walks from the cottage. We would happily book again should we be visiting the area.

Itâs a really charming little place and perfect for a relaxing break. One of the highlights for us was the surrounding walks â there are plenty of beautiful routes right on the doorstep, and our little dog Millie absolutely loved having so much space to run around and explore. The property itself was cosy and comfortable. The owners were also very nice and welcoming, especially Mick, who was very chatty and shared some really interesting facts and stories, which added a nice personal touch to our stay. Our only small criticism would be the lighting. It felt like it was either very bright with all the lights on or a bit too dark with them off. An uplight behind the sofa or in one of the corners would make a big difference and help create a nicer level of lighting in the evenings. The downstairs toilet can also be a little inconvenient when youâre upstairs in bed and need to use it during the night. We also felt the small room upstairs might have been more useful as a toilet rather than a wardrobe space. The shower also lacked a bit of power as it isnât a power shower, which could potentially be improved. Itâs also worth noting that you need to step into the bath to use it, which could be a little awkward for elderly guests. Overall though, we had a really lovely stay and itâs a sweet little place in a great location, especially if youâre bringing a dog along.
