Designed with relaxation in mind, Gadley Cottage is the perfect couples’ retreat. Step into the spacious open plan living space and feel totally at home with a comfy living area and stunning interior design along with a cosy wood burner to keep you warm and toasty on those chillier evenings.
The well-designed kitchen with its granite worktops and attention to detail makes whipping up a special meal a breeze, and gorgeous countryside views from almost every window, especially the conservatory, will make you feel like you are a million miles away from it all. Step out on to a private courtyard area to discover your very own hot tub with wonderful views of the beautiful landscaped garden. Lie back and soak the hours away or indulge in a bottle of something bubbly and watch the sun set.
Buxton has much to offer including its spectacular Pavilion Gardens, the amazing Devonshire Dome with its Victorian spa and the opera house, as well as unique shops bistros, restaurants, wine bars and pubs catering for all tastes. Book a show at the wonderful Buxton Opera House during your stay, a fantastic venue for all sorts of shows including comedians, plays, operas and children’s shows. There is an abundance of places to visit from stately homes such as Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall, together with many great villages. The adventure park of Alton Towers is well worth a visit, or enjoy visiting caverns, cycling along trails, golf at Buxton or stride out on one of the numerous walks directly from your doorstep. You will never be short of things to do and see in this wonderful part of Derbyshire. Bar 900 yards, Pub, restaurant, shops 1400 yards.

We chose this cottage specifically because it advertised a hot tub, and we naturally assumed that it would be in good working order. Unfortunately, this was not the case.To get any reasonable power from the jets, we had to set the hot tub so that only half of the jets on one side were operating. When all of the jets were switched on, the pressure was so weak that the hot tub was effectively of very little use. In addition, parts of the hot tub kept coming loose and floating to the surface, meaning that we repeatedly had to find the loose parts and put them back into place.We contacted the person who was on call for assistance. Although he was very polite and clearly tried to help, he appeared to know less about the hot tub than we did and was unable to resolve the problem. Given that the hot tub was one of the main reasons we chose this property, we found this particularly disappointing.We were also told that milk would be provided, but there was no milk when we arrived and none was subsequently brought to us during our stay. Fortunately, we had brought some with us, but this was nevertheless unacceptable. If guests are specifically told that a basic provision will be supplied, it should be there when they arrive.The cleanliness of the kitchen was another major concern. The oven was filthy, and the gold-coloured oven rack was extremely dirty and sticky to the touch. It was obvious that neither had been properly cleaned for some considerable time. This is particularly disappointing in a holiday property where guests reasonably expect a good standard of cleanliness.Although there was a dishwasher, there were only four of each type of utensil, crockery and cutlery. As a result, we constantly had to wash things by hand simply to have enough available for the next meal, which rather defeats the purpose of having a dishwasher in the first place.The décor was also disappointing. The colour schemes were unattractive and did not appear to have been chosen with any real consideration for creating a pleasant or comfortable environment. There was a large sofa, but there were no cushions to make it comfortable to sit on.The bedroom was another disappointment. The bed consisted of two single beds pushed together, and the mattresses were quite hard and uncomfortable. A comfortable bed is surely one of the most important aspects of a holiday cottage, particularly when guests are staying for several nights.We were also disappointed by the access to the property. It is not possible to drive directly up to the cottage, meaning that all luggage and belongings have to be carried up a fairly steep hill.Overall, we felt that very little thought had been put into ensuring that guests have a comfortable, enjoyable and well-maintained experience. Rather than feeling like a property that had been prepared with guests' comfort in mind, it gave us the impression that the emphasis had been placed on generating income without sufficient attention being given to the standard of the accommodation.Sadly, taking all of these issues together—the poorly functioning hot tub, lack of promised provisions, poor cleanliness, inadequate kitchen equipment, uncomfortable bed, disappointing décor and difficult access—we would not recommend this cottage to others.We hope that the owners will take these comments seriously and address these issues so that future guests do not have the same disappointing experience.

This is our second visit to Gadley Cottage and we love it there. It is very secluded in a lovely garden full of flowers, we enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub watching the bees and butterflies. The cottage is very clean and cosy, the sofa and the bed are both very comfortable. We hope to return again next year.
