very roomy and well equiped for a one bedroom cottage, great area for touring. Was cosy once we sorted the heating out (no info pack was available). Staff rsponded quickly to sort out the problem. Great for wildlife and Paxton House tour was excellent, as is the cafe.

We had a lovely week here with our dog. It was a great base to tour. The grounds were beautiful and we walked there daily. The house is worth a visit, as is the cafe. It was so quiet, even being next to a road. Very comfortable lodge, everything in the kitchen you’d need. Comfortable bed for a great nights sleep. Definitely looks smaller from the outside, like a tardis 😆 Back garden was a sun trap and lovely to sit out in, especially as it was enclosed for our dog. Would definitely recommend and would love to come back again. A very relaxing week for all of us.Other reviews have mentioned the paintwork and yes it needs a quick lick of paint but it did not detract from our enjoyment and relaxation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at South Lodge: the location was excellent, peaceful and, set within Paxton House estate, with dog walks on your doorstep. It was slightly more spacious than we imagined and the outdoor courtyard area with seating was lovely. Rooms were pleasantly furnished and there was lots of storage space. However, there are a few things that is worthwhile knowing in advance. The overall condition is rather tired - marked and stained walls, old and slow kitchen hob, scratched non-stick cookware and the towels, pillows and linen are thin and worn. Although the kitchen is well-equipped in some ways, they don't supply bin bags or sponge scourers and when we asked about basic supplies like salt, pepper, sugar etc, we got mixed messages - so safest to bring your own. Communication was inconsistent - I'd left a telephone message which was never responded to, a reply to one email but not another - and no contact during our stay so felt rather like we were being a nuisance with our questions rather than welcome guests. Overall though, the accommodation was good value, well-located and pleasant to stay in and we would book again. A very small amount of investment, a little more consideration of guests' needs and better customer service would make a big difference.
