The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an rspb reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.

There are four well appointed bedrooms, a massive kitchen with double fridge/freezer and coffee machine, 2 lounges, one medfium and a large one with panoramic views of the see and Coquet island and both have top of the range furniture. There was an excellent welcome pack. The TVs are a little difficult to get your head round and an idiot's guide would be helpful. The DVD player did not work despite a change of batteries.

Watching the sun rising over the North Sea will always remain with me. The decorations, fittings and furniture throughout were of high quality and made the stay special. The house accommodated our 3 family groups of 5 adults and 3 children with ease without ever feeling crowded. The beds were particularly comfortable with our sleep enhanced by the noise of the waves rolling into the adjacent beach. This must be one of the best houses we have ever stayed in. Congratulations to the owner and his designs for creating such a wonderful holiday location/experience. A couple of minor grumbles are: 1. The step on the path on north side of the property needs highlighting by light at night and a definite marking to avoid trips. During our stay we had 3 trips which fortunately resulted in only minor injuries. 2. If possible the water running off the top window should be collected and discharged prior to falling onto the lower bedroom exterior window sill as the noise from the drips were irritating during the night. 3. The installation of a handrail on the steps from the carpark area could improve accessibility for frail guests.

it was really luxurious yet cosy & very well equipped. There were amazing views out to sea from the large living room . It was spotlessly clean, everything worked & the beds were really comfortable!! . There was ample parking, a handy enclosed garden space for our dog and such dark skies at night that we got wonderful views of the stars. A two minute walk away was a lovely wee beach where our dog had a great time playing with furry friends. It was great to be based in Amble which has lots of great restaurants & pubs within walking distance as well as supermarkets /chemist etc. Many thanks to the Owners for a lovely holiday. Their house is splendid!
