Guests say

Melvin Cottage is praised for its superb location, often described as perfect, with easy access to the beach and local amenities. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchen. While the cottage's charm is noted, some guests feel that the property could benefit from updates and better heating solutions, particularly during colder months. The enclosed garden and pet-friendly policy are highlights for many visitors.

The cottage generally receives positive remarks about cleanliness, with several guests finding it clean and tidy. However, a few reviews mention areas where dust and upkeep were lacking, slightly lowering the score.

The location is consistently lauded as exceptional, with guests loving the proximity to the beach and local attractions. It is often cited as the highlight of the stay.

Guests find the beds comfortable and the property cosy, but some reviews mention issues with seating, heating, and the need for better duvets, suggesting room for improvement in overall comfort.

Facilities are adequate with a well-equipped kitchen, but several guests note that the property could do with maintenance and modernisation. Issues with heating, shower quality, and garden upkeep affect the score.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owners, so it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

The beds did not feel aired. They were cold and damp and the bedrooms did not warm up throughout our stay. We had no choice but to purchase coal and logs and use the open fire to heat the dining /living room.

The electric night storage heaters are not fit for purpose. You don’t expect to walk into a bathroom and bedrooms and be able to see your breath as it’s so so cold. The open fire is beautiful but only heats the one room. What a shame as it would have been a lovely stay if we had not had to leave early as we were so cold we had to sleep in the sofas to be warm. We were told we should have spoken to the owners about the heat but you can’t do anything with night storage heaters they are what they are I have had them before in a home I lived in.

What an amazing place to stay, such a privilege to be able to walk out the door onto the amazing beach. The property however is badly in need of updating. It is basic, which is fine but we were cold. Really cold at night. The temperature wasn't especially cold for December, but the old storage heaters just don't cut it. That coupled with the hard floors and flimsy curtains and thin duvets meant that we left a day early. If you have booked over the winter take logs for the fire and if you have any extra portable heaters take those too.
