Fantastic stay at The Hemmel, we stayed over Christmas and it did not disappoint. Clean, spacious, well equipped, cooked Christmas dinner, in fact we cooked everyday and it had everything we needed. Location is great, walk over the fields to the beach. Log fire, which we used everyday, beds comfy absolutely no issues. Some had said about the heating in other reviews so we contacted the agents before we arrived to air our concerns as we didn’t want to be cold. Instant response from the owner, heating was on, and it was lovely and warm when we arrived, it’s on a timer, on in the morning, and came back on at teatime cottage was perfectly heated, also we used the log burner which was very good. No hesitation in recommending the cottage, a Christmas tree would have been an added touch but that’s the only recommendation.

The Hemmel is a fabulous beautifully furnished and equipped barn conversion. It is slightly off the beaten track for walking to the village on wintry nights but in the summer it’s a stone throw to the nearest pub. It is close to so many beautiful sights and towns and the coastal path walking with a big dog is wonderful. The beaches are golden sand with lovely views and go on for miles all nearby the property. The only issue was the timing of the heating. Hence the reason for 4 rather than 5 star! Thankfully there was a wood burning stove which we used to the max. Please alter the timings….

Beautiful cottage with everything you need in the house and kitchen. We loved our cosy evenings with the fire. The house was so peaceful we slept very well. Excellent location for some of the things in Northumberland - Alnwick, Bamburgh and Cragside. Also a nice walk to Embleton if you want a day without driving.
