About this property

This outstanding property enjoys a magical setting close to the village of Grasmere. With contemporary styling and luxury furnishings throughout, an acre of gardens and even an external hot tub, Goody Raise certainly has the wow factor.

Grasmere is famous not only for its stunning views over Rydall and Loughrigg, but also for its connections with William Wordsworth who lived in Dove Cottage at the edge of the village. The Heaton Cooper Studio is well known amongst artists and of course this the home of the famous Grasmere Gingerbread.

Outside the property is a generous parking area with room for at least three cars, along with beautiful sprawling gardens and sun terrace with glass balustrades. Once inside, guests will be delighted by the comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, underpinned by the properties stunning refurbishment. The entrance hall leads to a useful utility area with plenty of room for storing and drying walking boots and outdoor clothing, and a downstairs cloakroom and shower. The open plan living area has superbly comfortable sofas clustered round the feature fireplace and large glass doors through to the glorious garden and highlighting the stunning views. The modern and stylish kitchen is a delight, and a separate garden room offers an alternative spot to sit and daydream.

Upstairs are the three stunning bedrooms, two king size with en-suites and a very grown-up twin with separate bathroom. All the bedrooms are beautifully presented with comfortable beds and magnificent views. Goody Raise is a very special property, perfect for a family celebration or memorable holiday.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

A perfect location for privacy but with easy access to Grasmere. A week really wasn't long enough, but we were relaxed from the moment we arrived and reluctant to leave this beautiful location. We'll be back! And hoping to see the Gardener's dog again (the gardeners were lovely too!)...

Only suggestions to improve would be to review the access to the hot tub, it's not easy to get in and out and a handrail of some sort would be a much welcome addition. Maybe consider access to a basic tv package and provide better information on tv usage too, as it wasn't that straight forward to use. Those two tiny matters aside, it's a cracking place in a beautiful setting and we'll definately be back at some point.

Whilst most places were clean, I have to take issue with some of the bedrooms especially the twin. All surfaced were very dusty and had not been cleaned. Evidence of hair on the floor again suggested not enough floor cleaning. Kitchen bins were filthy albeit with bin bags in, but once removed highlighted the issue. Some kitchen cupboards had crumbs in and felt skimped. This is a very large house for one person to clean and realistically needs two cleaners not one. I don’t think it’s the cleaners fault but you should send two people out given the time it would take to do a more thorough job. The overall comfort is great but as we have mentioned before, style of substance appears to apply to the sofas that leave you fidgeting for comfort. I’m sure we will be using it again.
