Cottage 2 is a welcoming cottage resting in the heart of Braithwaite, Cumbria, where its stone-built charm, mezzanine double bedroom, and sociable open-plan living space create an inviting base for families and friends exploring the Lake District. Set within the grounds of Old Farmhouse Mews, the property offers a warm atmosphere from the moment you step inside, with the open-plan layout encouraging guests to gather, cook, dine, and unwind together. The kitchen provides everything needed for preparing simple meals after days spent walking the fells, while the dining area invites lively conversations and shared plans for the days ahead. As evening settles, the sitting area becomes the natural hub of the cottage, where you can curl up in front of the TV or enjoy a board game as the night draws in.
The ground-floor twin bedroom is ideal for younger guests or friends sharing, while the mezzanine double sits tucked beneath the eaves, offering a charming retreat at the end of the day. A ground-floor shower room completes the layout, providing convenience for all. Outside, the shared courtyard offers a pleasant spot to enjoy a morning coffee before heading out to explore. Braithwaite itself is a lovely village, with a shop and pub just moments away, making it easy to enjoy local produce or a hearty meal after a day outdoors. Keswick is a short drive away, offering Derwentwater cruises, independent shops, and family-friendly attractions such as the Puzzling Place.
Whinlatter Forest provides walking and cycling trails through towering trees, perfect for adventurous days out. Further afield, the village of Grasmere offers charming cafés, scenic walks, and the famous gingerbread shop. With so much to discover, Cottage 2 offers a wonderful base for enjoying the beauty and adventure of Cumbria.
Between the magnificent northern lakes of Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite, lies the village of Braithwaite. Still retaining much of its traditional appeal, the Coledale Beck runs through the village with whitewashed Lakeland cottages, two village shops and two real ale Inns each brimming with character! Between Braithwaite and Buttermere is the beautiful Newlands Valley, while picturesque Bassenthwaite Lake is well worth a visit. From a gentle countryside ramble to a challenging hike up Skiddaw, there really is something for everyone. Visit Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the lake with an open-air theatre, or take a trip around the lake. Lake District Wildlife Park, Dodd Wood, Derwentwater, and Keswick with its wide range of attractions, are also within easy reach.
