    About this property

About three miles from the village of Gunnislake, surrounded by serene woodland, is Rock View Shepherd's Hut. This beautiful retreat is set within broad-leafed woodland, close to Wheal Josiah, the now abandoned, but former richest copper mine in Europe. Wander through this lovely land towards the hut and step up into the romantic studio accommodation. On your left sits a lovely dining area, which can be transformed into a cosy double bed come night-time. Perfect for two adults. With no TV or WiFi, this really is a relaxing retreat for you and your other half to get away from it all. A compact yet nicely appointed kitchen also comes nearby, while the layout benefits charmingly from a woodburning stove and a flutter of delightful copper features indicating the copper mine grounds that the property rests on. Completing this unique bolthole is a fresh white shower room. Outside is a private woodland garden with a table, chairs and a fire pit - an idyllic spot to unwind. Also for your enjoyment a private wood-fired hot tub for two.
Beyond the garden are acres of woodland and the Tamar Trails activity centre for walking and cycling, which is around a 20-minute walk away. Nearby are the historic market town of Tavistock, the National Trust's Cotehele House, Buckland Abbey and Morwellham Quay, the location of the BBC's Edwardian Farm. Further afield, Plymouth has shops, theatres, the National Marine Aquarium and historic Barbican. Rock View Shepherd’s Hut is a peaceful and picturesque retreat where you can choose to do as little or as much as you wish.

A delightful award-winning market town on the River Tavy, nestling in the South West slopes of Dartmoor. Tavistock has an indoor pannier market, a diverse range of shops, an excellent choice of pubs, bistros, restaurants, a theatre and a cinema, as well as a leisure pool.

" We have used Cottages before and surely will again. The Shepard's Hut we stayed in was idyllic and the surrounding area beautiful to explore. "

" The new hot tub was a wonderful surprise and really helped to make this most recent stay the most relaxing Christmas we've had for over a decade! I would recommend this holiday to anyone looking to get away from it all. It is exactly like the photos, but a stay at the Rock View Shepherd's Huts is a multi-sensory experience and you really need to be there to enjoy seeing squirrels right outside the door, hearing the owls at night and, if you are really lucky, catching a fleeting glimpse of the deer as they move almost silently through the forest! "

" Fantastic country walks, rivers and friendly pubs. We slepted so well. Enjoyed the sound of the trees, star gazeing and following the moon. Loved the fire pit. "

" The hut is gorgeous, has modern facilities I.e a dab radio, decent shower, modern taps, not a lot of storage space so if going for a weekend you might want to pack light. Bottle of prosecco chilled on arrival, a personal welcome card and chocolates was a good touch. Everything was pristine and like new. Absolutely worth the money! Walking trails with a good couple of hours trek that starts and ends just five minute walk from the property. Had a warm welcome and had everything explained clearly by Nick. Had a perfect weekend away here with so much peace and quiet. Loved the fire pit for the evening and bbq. Left to our own devices and enjoyed the long nights beside the fire with just the bird song and a dab radio. Highly recommend just a shame it's so far away for us. "

" The most peacefull setting with high quality accomodation. Great hosts, lots of wildlife to see we saw deer feeding out of kitchen sink window in the early evening. Tavistock very nice town nearby. One tip if your staying more than two nights you may want to take an iron as theres no where to hang clothes. Would deffo stay again as exellent value high quality fittings ,wood burner and fire pit great. Big thanks to Nick and Karen for a memorable little escape from the world. "

" It's a repeat visit, and one we have already recommended to friends. If you just want to get away from it all, read, walk and appreciate windows full of green leaves, this is the perfect spot. Curl up in front of the woodburner, watch the wildlife, or enjoy the stunning countryside. Lydford Gorge and Cothele are special places nearby too. Friendly and helpful hosts. Would definitely go again. "

" Myself and my partner stayed here on the weekend just gone, and omg what a beautiful place. It was truely amazing. It is away from all the hustle and bustle. On arrival Karen was waiting with the keys she was very welcoming and had alot of knowledge of the local area and recommendations. She instantly made us feel welcome. The hut is beautiful, well looked after and loved. You have a little camp fire and a little pond with a decking area. It is in the middle of the woods so the sound of wildlife is beautiful and just so calming. They even left us a small welcome pack which was so appreciated. The hut is well equipped and even has a few games etc so nice to sit and have a game of something we wouldn't do at home. This place was the perfect getaway and I would highly highly recommend staying here. Thank you Nick and Karen for the best weekend. "

" The bed is extraordinarily comfortable, top notch. The hut is beautifully finished and very well equipped, and the personal touches appreciated (woodburner lit etc.) There is no defined boundary and we felt we could have just wandered through the woods if we had chosen to. Lots of logs supplied, lovely towels and plenty of hidden storage. It's location on top of a large disused mine is intriguing too. The Copper Penny Inn nearby served very local Venison and Lamb at the carvery. "
    Mr Shepherd ‐ 1 Feb 2019
" The host and service was wonderful. We spent our wedding night here and it was idyllic. I love that there is no television but there are great facilities. We would definitely come back again. "

"Superb location, helpful hosts, the very quintessence of glamping."
    - Miss Horton, August 2018
"A wonderful secluded area with the forest right on your doorstep! Wonderful hosts and a cozy setting, absolutely wonderful for our holiday, and with Tavistock and other wonderful towns only down the road there were still lots of things to do when not roasting marsh mellows on the fire or watching the local wildlife (such as deer and squirrels). I would highly recommend this beautiful holiday to any couple, as long as they are taller than me so it is easier to get on the bed :)"
    - Mrs Shadbolt, September 2018
"The industrial history and related geology right outside the hut, and in the surrounding the area, was unexpected and fascinating. With respect to the accommodation, it was 5 star in miniature - simply brilliant."
